Wrote, recorded, mixed and mastered today, which is why it's not quite there (trying to get the balance between the bassline and the drums right!).
Started with the bassline, wanted something super simple but undeniably hooky. Grabbed an old record my dad bought for us when I was a kid (51 cents!) of spoken word poetry and recorded a bit of that. Chopped it up a bit, so this contains a few samples from that. It's a poem by Oscar Wilde, read by Frank Duncan.
Production Notes:
Matriarch in single voice mode with all squares and pulse waves for oscillators, ended up taking the MIDI clip of one of the bassline parts, pitching it up an octave, and applying that to a Massive X patch played simultaneously with the Matriarch line iiin some points to give it some variety.
The super trippy sounding high pitched crazy thing is Mother 32 split with the left going through Blades and then Chronoblob 2, the right going straight to Chronoblob 2 - manual tweaking and Blades pitch and routing (between the two filters)
Actually wait, one output of Blades going to Chronoblob 2, the other is feeding back into Mother 32’s auxiliary audio port. So it’s a bit cyclical.
The sort of airy sound at the end is Clouds just sort of feeding back on itself, position and texture modulated by Maths.
The octave super distorted high part is a Kinetic Metal patch passed through Native Instruments' Driver, the rate parameter is modulated in one of the lines.
We used to be cool
Played me for a fool
Seen this before
Think this calls for
Blood and Wine

Aha! Always love hearing your voice. Certainly hooky, chill, and just straight up cool. You're a fuckin' cool dude and your music is cool.
Adore the music and the backstory.
Also, congratulations on being the first human to write the sentence "Actually wait, one output of Blades going to Chronoblob 2, the other is feeding back into Mother 32’s auxiliary audio port. So it’s a bit cyclical."

This is very cool! I like that driving beat a lot. Great vocal. Great pacing. I really enjoyed listening. Really great song!

That bassline is incredible! I too could listen to this all day. The vocal samples are catchy as hell and the mix on the whole thing is gorgeous. Fantastic track!

Like @psyt, I'm getting some serious Depeche Mode vibes on this one. Love it! That bottom end grabs you & won't let you go. Then you wash it with the distorted sounds & the simple vocals for a complete effect that you don't want to stop listening to. The vocal sample in the "bridge" works really well. Another great track!

Love the part you referred to as a Kinetic Metal patch, and the vocals. Catchy. Depeche Mode vibes. :)

Really dig the intro to this, builds and grabs, those are some deep kicks and a grooving bassline! Chorus sounds cool and you have some unique sounds in here.

Oooh dem drums.
LOVE the kick, its so fuzzy and warm but still hits so hard; boomy without being muddy or getting lost in the mix.
No complaints about the mix from me, I think you got it great.
Digging the feel of this. I really like simple lyrics that repeat like these do, that let you think what the writer is really writing about.
Catchy vocal melody on them, too.
Really cool sound design stuff you got going on with all the running things through other things and doing stuff to them - excellent brooding vibe is the result.
That bottom is so present but again, really well mixed. Its almost trance like how it booms in my headphones in this gentle way.
Great feel to this one, man!

Love the texture and the energy. I could have this on a loop for hours just droning along in the background and I don't think I would tire of it.

Love this. Undeniably catchy achievement unlocked. Also, like, kinda sexy and careless. Just a great attitude.
@gubna Feb 2022
Trippy! I like the different synths in the different parts, and the simple, yet effective vocals.
