Combo of three song ideas floating around: one quoting the synthesizer line in the Kool and the Gang classic "Summer Madness" using a guitar (merely because I don't play keyboard), another from a device I vaguely associate with afro-latin choral songs, and finally the breakdown comes off Thomas Dolby's "Hyperactive." I didn't succeed but I wanted to make the part prior to the breakdown sparser as in the Clash's "Wild Bunch."
All the way around. Other the way around.
All the way.
Feeling boxed in
I came to kick out the jams.
But the truth is
Can’t accept what I really am.
In my confusion, what am I meeting in life,
With resistance..
Got my reasons (This is war, this is war)
for my feelings.
It could trap you, it could wrap you
In distractions, many forms.
It can feed on your obsessions,
It can cause unending harm.
It’s a threat that I’ve imagined
To my deeply-held beliefs.
It’s been messing with the funda-
Mental sense
Of
My
Esteem.
What did I ask for?
Always trouble staying in peace.
Feeling like torture.
Like I got some fatal disease.
How did this happen?
When will I learn how to heal?
Feels like torture.

Stanley, I can see your circling around the heart of this one. I think if you edit down you’ll find the essence. Digging the intro with those back up vocals sounding almost gospel and the lead vocal sounding like soulful Can. The heavy guitar that comes in at around :40 is cool too. I’d consider moving that all the way up to the :20 mark and getting down to it. Then I’d pick a few licks you like and use them as short fills instead of what feels like multiple solos. With that I bet you get this down to tight <4mins that feels more focused. Not that song length matters all that much but I think the best parts of this piece will shine with less around it. Really cool guitar groove on the outro here. Great start to the month!
