Feb 2022 americana folk country blues
John says: I always love to collaborate with Danny! His lyrics are so good the song almost writes itself!
Danny says: Take me to the river! I was reminiscing about my youth and the time spent at the Canadian river. We used to go every weekend during the summer and ride dirt bikes (motorcycles).
I'm glad that John ran away with this one.

I ain't been to the river since I don't know when
I can't wait to see the river again
When I get to the river gonna go for a swim
I ain't been to the river since I don't know when
Take me to the river
Take me to the river
Take me to the river... deep and wide
Take me to the river
Take me to the river
To the river on the other side
Goin' down to the river gonna have me a brew
Might even take a fishing pole or two
Gonna see some old buddies might even see you
Goin' down to the river gonna have me a brew
Take me to the river
Take me to the river
Take me to the river... deep and wide
Take me to the river
Take me to the river
To the river on the other side
It's been raining all week
And the river's deep
It's been raining all night
And the river is wide
Take me to the river
Take me to the river
Take me to the river... deep and wide
Take me to the river
Take me to the river
To the river on the other side

That banjo at the beginning had me imagining a Deliverance style trip to the river. And maybe that is hovering there in that river on the other side....Adds a kind of darkness and danger to the more traditional gospel kinds of trips to the river. Great collaboration

Oh, what a catchy song! Who doesn't love going down to the river?? I'll walk 20 minutes just for a glance of the river. Then I turn around :-) Awesome fiddle solo too. No word wasted here, great example of intentional and powerful lyrics. And John has the perfect power voice to sing them :-) Great collab, congrats!

I like the structure of this one with the repeated lines and I like the bridge. Boy, I'd love to see one more verse on this one though it's just fine as is. The rhythm is hard to resist and singing along happens right out of the gate.
@donna Feb 2022
Wonderful! Always a pleasure to hear one of Danny's fine lyrics given a musical home. (-: And it couldn't have a better home than with John. ;)
I love the 'river' repetition, and storytelling in the verses.
@cleanshoes Feb 2022
A familiar theme that never gets old. Really enjoyed the banjo and fiddle on this tune. Well done, both!
@karlsburg25 Feb 2022
When this kicked in, i could totally imagine the travelling wilburies doing this tune. It immediately has that classic feel to it. Brilliant instrumentation on this one and john you have a wonderful uncanny ability to make refrains be it musical or vocal chorus's stick in me head. Guess thats why you a firm FAWM fav. DAnny , I can imagine John seeing these lyrics and thinking "thats mine baby" ;-) . top stuff guys

John, do you get out to the bars and perform? My New Years' Resolution is to make it to Chicago and actually MEET you someday and listen to a concert. (Heck, I guess you could just put on a concert for ME...)
Really loving all your stuff--this one is no exception. Great job on the lyrics, @dannyk1
@tamsnumber4 Feb 2022

Holy pants, what a fun, dancing ride this is! This collaboration is seamless - you both did such an amazing job. Love that fiddle so much, it puts so much great energy in.
@crisp1 Feb 2022
Where do you want to go again? This is a fun toe-tapper, with a great banjo and fiddle. Might have to play it again!
@tseaver Feb 2022
Ooh, la, la! A perfect setting for the lyric, and les Acadiens are up and dancing, fershure.

Can't think of anyone better to put the voice and music to this great one of Danny's. I enjoyed it when I read it, but you two are such a great blend of talents, this is just what it called out for. I enjoyed this immensely!
@grayland Feb 2022

@darcistrutt Feb 2022
I'm enjoying the banjo tucked in there as well as all the other instrument layers. The lyrics sound like that spot by the river is a lovely get-away. Nice collab!
@writeandwrong Feb 2022
Nice work, guys and am I ever so glad this was about fishing! Popular title (We published one in 2016 with the same title, and while those were fond memories, things didn't end well due to egos, divorce (not mine), and well, lots of drinking.) I like that this has a positive vibe lyrically and a fun energy from beginning to end. Kudos to a fantastic collaboration!! Enjoyed the listen very much!! :)
@truetone Feb 2022
Sounds great! I go on a canoe trip with friends every year. I might have to add this to my list of songs to sing around the campfire!
