Skirmish: straight talk
Would love to have a collaborator - I was hearing it as kind of punk but am open to any genre
V1
you say “go straight”
I say “go gaily forward”
you say “looks straight”
I say “it looks even”
you say “talk straight”
I say “I like stories”
you say “I’m straight”
I say “I’m sorry… “
C
words matter
words have diverse
meanings
words matter
words have different
leanings
words matter to me
V2
you say “turn right”
I say “left turns only”
you say “act right”
I say “I’ll act up”
you say “that’s right”
I say “you mean correct?”
you say “I’m right”
I say “I’m sorry”

B
words can cut
words can bruise
let’s be mindful
of words we choose
words we use…
they may mean
something different
to me…. to you…
(Spoken words repeated softy behind the sung bridge:
moral, black, virtue, straight, value, gay, riot, white, protest, right, worship, left, open, strong, native, weak, privilege, wealth, power, queer, social, poor, able, trigger, weird, crazy)

I very much agree that words matter. As a child I got into some interesting predicaments over words, and my meaning vs theirs. You have some great examples playing off of each other here, with some clever word play. I could definitely hear the rhythm in your writing, and I see that you have someone who has heard some music too. If you let me know when it's posted I'd love to hear it.

I love this a lot. Thank you for allowing my to do a morph.

There's a lot of cleverness here as well as an important truth. The first verse is a nice exploration of the prompt.

Oh….this is a fantastic lyrical PSA. I especially love the lines: “you say, ‘I’m straight.’ I say, “I’m sorry.”
Also, that bridge sounds really interesting….Makes me wonder if it would work best with some instrumental between the two sung bridges and have the spoken word be surrounded with sung ooh’s or mmmm’s harmonized? That way other words would not overshadow those words that have so many layers of meaning…

Yup they do! However it is getting hard not to offend accidentally! One can only try! All you can do is try to do no harm. Good topic well written!

Words do indeed matter and you've captured this brilliantly!
