Feb 2022 synth-pop
Recorded on an iPad in a clothes closet with a computer keyboard for the solo. Not my usual way of working! Needs must.
For this one, I gave myself the challenge of using all major chords in IV-I and I-V descending cadences -- and try not to make it boring. So... key changes!
"The one thing that shows us everything is the one thing we can't look at." G K Chesterton.
Everything I spy with my little eye
Everything that tickles my feet and waves as I go by
Everything I eat, savoury or sweet
All the paper from the trees making all the books I read
Every shade of colour, amber red and blue
All the rainbow palette hues
I owe it all to you.
Invisible Sun
I can’t look at you
Invisible Sun
Even though I try
Invisible Sun
I can only catch you in the corner of my eye.
Invisible Sun
Although I can’t see you
Invisible Sun
I can’t see without you
Invisible Sun
That’s why I never doubt you
That’s how I know that you’re true.
Everything I see, every flower and bee
All things bright and beautiful
You show them all to me.
And when I close my eyes
I still know you’re there
I can feel you on my face
And arms and hands and hair.
Chorus

I love this super pop... and the in-the-closet vocal sound! Limitations are liberating! The chorus is so hooky!!!

I love that first verse, there are such joyful descriptors in this and love that chorus. You are so talented and clever, this sounds great. Sometimes when we strive to make music with what we have out of great need, we find some special talents and new ideas. Great song!

Oh Jon, so good, joyful and versatile. They, over at Apple should hire you to show the world what one is able to do with GB in a closet! They’d find Narnia with your help...,
the vox harmonies are ace as always, and the bridge synth is just awesome.
And so is the rest of corse.

"All things bright and beautiful" - sang that at a funeral yesterday so I feel a strong spiritual and philosphical message here especially with the creation referenced lyrics.
It's such a well put together song with a super catchy chorus and killer synth sounds.

Love the back story......and ode to the sun....life.
Love your spirit ️

80s pop fun! Lots of synth/keys sounds that bring us back to a lighter time.

This song reminds me of a time years ago, as I sat under a lamp reading, when I suddenly understood (in a very small way) the revelatory properties of light, which could help me see what was on the page, and also what was in my heart. The last two lines of the chorus make me think that might have been what you were going for. Something like that, anyway. Even on a “budget,” you came up with a delightful song!

I love how the chorus opens out from the verses creating contrast and ear candy. It's very poppy and fun, and catchy too! Great write :D

makes me remember a time when each song had its unique sound while remaining true to the formal integrity of the top 40 radio standards. i love both the outward sound and the iinner structure of this song, but even more impressive is the brilliant way jon delivers a heavy phhilosophical message through the light, happy, and fun lexicon pf summery pop music.

Nice lyrics.
Cute and poppy Invisible sun is a great title. Brainworm

Nice write: clever to draw attention to the thing we cannot look at directly. The pop-ish arrangement was fun, if unexpected.
