Feb 2022 songskirmish lyrics-only spoken-word sci-fi feb1112skirmishno2
Written as a response to this provocative skirmish image prompt posted by @wylddandelyon.
This is imagined as a spoken word of two different sorts, or the second part might be sung, and I imagine the music as providing a lot of atmosphere. Maybe sort of Moody Blues but with a sci-fi slant? It’s a little out of character, but I’m just trying to get my gears to spin, so I’ll take it!
I tagged it W1 cuz it’s all about the body parts!

Here in the room of Reassemblies Gone Wrong, I begin the wait.
I only hope I haven’t picked up extra parts. Those are the true horror stories I have seen.
At least I’m more or less recognizable.
“It’s just a skew,” they told me at the door. But that means I’m low on the triage totem pole.
“It’ll be a while.“
…
(spoken, maybe sung)
Somewhere, did you find a place
Where love can grow with half a face
And milky sight must be believed
A fragmentary life reprieved
While always, to your inner eye
You’re whole and lovely, safe and dry
The hours tick, and still you wait
Suspended in this tilted fate

Lovely, off-kilter imagery. I can hear all kinds of melodies in the last two quatrains. I'll have a bash soon.

A fragmentary life reprieved
Now THAT'S a line
Great write to the prompt...........I am missing your voice.

Hi Barbara, glad you're back. That's a good lyric. Or should I say those are good lyrics. ;) Interesting take on a strange prompt.

A fragmentary life reprieved is an amazing line, as is this entire scenario being played out. Really awesome slant on the prompt.
I also hate it when I come back from the doctor with extra parts :D

Barbara! Every time I comment, I'm going to start by exclaiming your name. :)
I'm a fan of the departure, unique for you and unique for us. ("What's a 'skew?'" I can imagine the newly sentient asking. Those two stanzas are compactly written and evocative. They have a nice built in rhythm to them.

I kind of doubt the band F*cked Up is your style (I doubt they're most anyone's style), but I could a hear something happening with this similar to their track "Dose your Dreams."

Nice clear imagery. I love the idea of some poor being whose medical/mechanical care is put on hold, well, that's not quite right. I hate that it happens to people, but I think it really works as a song to this prompt. Suspended in this tilted fate indeed.
