Feb 2022 folk count-altry protest
So the religious right just failed to get a bill passed in Australia that would have given them freedom to discriminate against LGBTQI+ folk amongst others under the banner of religious freedom. Thankfully there are still enough politicians left here with a semblance of justice, although sometimes it's hard to tell. Another field recording but this time I think a little better, Get a nice chorus effect out of my dodgy travel guitar as it starts to go out of tune :)
Thank you Estraya
For not being Amurica
Thank you Estraya
For being a bloody good place
The small minds have big voices
And claim to be pro-choices
But thank you Estraya
Most of youse are ace
There’s Some what cries for freedom
And then hides behind religion
Some what never learnt to read
And only talk in grunts
Some what thinks they’re patriots
When really they’re just fuckwits
Who wave a flag upside down
And act like self entitled cu….. ummmm children!
Thank you Estraya
To those that killed the bill
Thank you Estraya
It’s a struggle to be clear
Freedom lets us choose our mates
It’s Not freedom to discriminate
Thank you Estraya
Give yerself three cheers
Thank you Estraya
Most of youse are grouse
Thank you Estraya
It’s time to scratch that itch
Let’s show Scotty, Clive and Rupert
And their mates up in the pulpit
Estraya is for everyone
Not just the bloated rich
Thank you Estraya
For not being Amurica
Thank you Estraya
For being a bloody good place
The small minds have big voices
And claim to be pro-choices
But thank you Estraya
Most of youse are ace

Damn fine protest ballad! I am friggin' embarrassed to be from Amurica! Love your classic folk ballad sound with guitar and soft-spoken vocals! A powerful combination I think! And your lyrics are spot on calling out these fuckwits and children! Really enjoyed my listen!

A classic timeless protest song! Great stuff.

You've made a classic protest song. Nice rhyming. I especially appreciated patriots/fuckwits...and the bit about the, uh, children, made me laugh. I think Amurican law is pretty clear about not discriminating in this regard, though

These rhyme choices are golden and inspiring. Just wonderful.

Important subject! In Germany we also got a similar discussion bout right and wrong. Theses days we got some awful political discussions which often leave me speechless just because of our history. But it is my country I will always raise my voice against them!
Yes, small minds have big noises but that don#t means they are right!

i see i am not the only one to pick out this line: small minds have big voices. yep something very "nail right on the head" about this. i like the casual language, brings out the humour, and also the aussie friendliness and banter. big points within that though, nicely done :)
@janeukey Feb 2022
Yes, bloody spot on! This is a great song, Peter - the “small minds have big voices…” line is gold!
@dragondreams Feb 2022
What a fantastic protest/thank you song. Nails the point home really effectively!
@wylddandelyon Feb 2022
Oh, very nice! "Small minds have big voices"--that is way too true!
@gwyn1234 Feb 2022
Yep..."The small minds have big voices" and you'e nailed that with a strong mind and a true voice...

Good writing and delivery and very spot on with the lyrics. I've followed this story and it almost gives you hope for the future. Very nice guitar here too.
@cblack Feb 2022
I didn't know about the bill. But I'm glad we won!
I like the lyrical melody. And the guitar is nice. Good job!

Nice write: always good to celebrate a victory for human freedom, wherever it happens.
FWIW, some of us are managing to keep up the fight here in the 'States, although we're feeling a little embattled at the moment.
