I’ve got a tune in mind for this. I was sitting in a cafe in the old neighborhood where I used to live. I could see my old apartment and remembered how I could hear the music from the restaurant on the other side of the wall. I used to call our bathroom “Rush Limbaugh” because sometimes they had talk radio on and it sounded like some kind of conservative station.
Anyway, this made me think about how people are so quick to get upset when others are in their perceived space. This could get really political, but I basically want to feel good about being around other human beings. We are not alone.
Can you hear that sound?
Coming through the walls
Our neighbors are
Listening to the radio
Even in our home
There’s a reminder that
We are not alone. (And isn’t that a good thing?)
When I see the signs
Someone has touched what is mine
Why do I feel so wronged?
Why do I mind?
Seems such a little thing
For me to get worked up about
(Isn’t it a small thing?)
Can’t we all try a little harder to get along?
I want to be done with worrying
Living a petty life
There’s so much more to love
When we open up
So turn up your radio
I’ll open my window tonight
We can all try a little harder to get along.
