I was listening to a podcast called Cocaine and Rhinestones presented by Tyler Mahan Coe (son of David Allan Coe) about 20th century country music, which I highly recommend and this song came to me...
I dull the pain of your deceit
By drinking every day
I blur the vision of your betrayal
In my own self-destructive way
Sleep is rare
I don't go there
That's when I hurt the most
Oh, don't you see
You've killed in me
All hope
And I've gone from man to ghost
Each tender word you spoke to me
Now spikes me through the heart
Each gentle moment making love
Now seems so cruel on your part
While I'm around
Still above ground
Knocked from pillar to post
Oh, take a while
Behind that smile
And see
That I've gone from man to ghost
While I'm around
Still above ground
Knocked from pillar to post
Oh, take a while
Behind that smile
And see
That I've gone from man to ghost
Oh, take a while
Behind that smile
And see
That I've gone from man to ghost

Oh, I have been there... Great and very relatable lyrics. The hook line "gone from man to ghost" is killer! Very memorable and suiting melody and your vocal delivery is perfect on this!

Instant country classic. So good. Sad song, vocal twang and edge in all the right measure. Hitting the sweet spot with this write!

These are some great country lyrics. I love that "I've gone from man to ghost" refrain!

I like the concept of going from man to ghost while still alive. Very clever! It’s hard to feel the sadness of the lyrics with those expressive, soaring vocals!!

This is a great song! Awesome hook and that image alone is enough to churn the emotions. Then comes the story...lol...and all the other images. The vocal is really expressive and the music quite catchy! It stays on the mind.

Oh I love this! Good classic country, with super writing and a heck of a good performance!

my favorite of your so far this year. probably a few thousand nashville songwriters who would kill for a chorus like this, it is top shelf materal and few writers can reach that high, your performance is equally amazing.

Nice write! The "ghost walking" image is perfect, and perfectly suited to the classic country vibe here.
