I spent the good part of a day trying to get a folk-ish song together and it just wasn't happening. I decided to put it away, and last night started fooling around with some GarageBand loops. Suddenly, there was this song...
I'm not a rapper by any stretch of the imagination, but hopefully this serves the genre in a decent way.
I'm a pretty hopeful kind of person, so my songs tend to reflect that. No surprise that this one does, too : )
All it takes is a little understanding
If we’re honest, it’s what we all need
To feel respected, to feel we have some value
To feel human - to that we all agree
It doesn’t mean that you agree with what I’m saying
It doesn’t mean that we’re seeing eye to eye
It only means that you’re open just to listen
To stick around and find some common ground
Have some grace – have a little kindness
Bring some latitude to your attitude
Here’s the thing, I know you’ve heard it all before
Love your neighbor as yourself, and then here’s a little more
Love God with all your strength and all your heart
If we can do that, it’ll give us a pretty good start
Show a little kindness - show a little grace
It’s not so hard, you can do it

Way to dip into a new genre! For me this actually feels not just like a rap song but a cool fusion of rap, jazz, and folk. Especially digging that piano part in the middle!

I love the backstory to this. Fooling around with stuff anf suddenly there's a song in front of you - thats the spirit of FAWM right there.
I was happily bopping along to this and then BOOM, that piano kicks in. Wow. Didn't see that coming. There's a new genre in the making here. Jazz-rap? Concert-beats? ;)

Those are some funky beats, and the bluesy/rocky piano snuck in there so smoothly. Jazzy vocals later. This song has everything! Really a cool stretch with successful results.

Rap?!? How awesome! Love this! The background track works well and your vocal delivery is great - I like the addition of some unexpected elements like the grand piano sound and the singing parts. I like the message in your lyrics as well.
