This was a 12-bar until ten minutes ago. The wonder of fast songwriting.
It’s the time of my life where they’re
burning the heather
I can’t make anything last forever
Sometimes I think
there’s nothing left to add
Comes to us all in the end
And that’s sad
I can’t hide it
It’s there for all to see
the lines on my face
Under the mirror ball
But it’s Friday night
I’m out with the lads
And for a middle aged white man
I don’t dance too bad
I’m not pretending I’ve got moves
I don’t care, I’ve got nothing to prove
My knees don’t bend and I’m carrying some weight
But I’ve got two good feet and plenty to shake
Now give me four on the floor
And some rotating lights
A clean shirt, I’m on fire tonight
I’m as light as a feather
At least in my head
For a middle aged white man
I don’t dance too bad
I’m hungover every morning
I’m worried every night
I’m pretty sure I’ve wasted
The days of my life
You won’t remember my name,
I’m just your daughter’s friend’s dad
But for a middle aged white man
I don’t dance too bad

That's a great song. Well played. I think Ive been to your shop once or twice on my visits to Whitby. I will go through my trip photos one of these days. Nice to hear your words.

Love this one! (And I too am a MAWM!)
I watched the video - watching you sing, play, and shimmy with joyful abandon was a delight!

My knees don’t bend and I’m carrying some weight
But I’ve got two good feet and plenty to shake
Now those are good lines that made me smile!
I like this upbeat melody and the quick phrasing, it fits the "dance" idea. I thought this was a great listen!!

Oh perfect.
You won’t remember my name
I’m just your daughter’s friend’s dad
But for a middle aged white man
I don’t dance too bad
Poignant and humourous, with a nice old timey dance hall feel.

"For a middle-aged white man, I don't dance too bad" ... that speaks volumes. Good lyrics throughout.

Love the jaunty feel and the “silver lining” aspect of the lyrics - this is fun and whimsical and affecting all at once :-)

This brought a smile to my face - Dad-dancing! Very enjoyable listen.

I enjoyed this! "A clean shirt, I'm on fire tonight"...fun lines like that (& the two good feet line the others mention also) stand out in this and shine. I like the piano and light-hearted vocal too. I also think it's a very charming song!

Agreed that "But I’ve got two good feet and plenty to shake" is the line of this song. It's a really fun song about accepting yourself, and your performance is quite good!

"I've got two good feet and plenty to shake" - ha, that's a very good selling point! The jaunty piano does a great job of conveying the "I can dance" attitude, and all in all it's a very charming argument for a middle aged white guy. Especially the "clean shirt" part, that's very important! :D :D
