another day in paradise
the world chugs and churns
bombast and brilliance
cruelty and kindness
indifference and compassion
all of a piece
i wake
i avoid the act of living
i sleep
i dream the promise of possibility
dreaming is not doing
sleeping is not waking
the birds gather seeds
the bees collect pollen
the cats collect sunbeams
i collect regret and missed opportunities
the world chugs and churns
i sit and stare
useless

"the cats collect sunbeams"
- delightful imagery :)

Nice write: sketches the stuckness of depression deftly. Love the contrast with the cal collecting sunbeams.

I love how the structure devolves over the course of the lyric. Someone could do some really interesting things with that, musically. And that fourth to last line brings down the hammer HARD in the best sort of way.

Great evocation of that feeling of helplessness and being unconnected to the natural world that we all feel at one time or another.

I really like your style. The two lyrics I've read both resonated with me--and both work the same vein, in some sense. I like the details about the birds, the bees, the cats...and you, though it seems that you're collecting more than missed opportunities. (Of course, the speaker isn't necessarily you, I know)

I love the image of cats collecting sunbeams, really brilliant. You really capture the progression of a day started in optimism, that slowly progresses toward ennui and melancholy.
