clench and stretch and twist and stretch
pet the cats
greet the squirrels
drink all the coffee
a day to meet
with eyes wide open
and a shattered heart
clench and stretch and move and stretch
brush the teeth
flush the sinuses
wash all the parts
a day to meet
with heart wide open
and a troubled soul
the scars upon my arms
remind me of days
days i wanted no part of
days i walked away from
but today, i
clench and stretch and stretch and stretch
face the sun
touch the sky
embrace all the things
a day to meet
with soul wide open
and a grateful spirit

The shift from open heart/troubled soul to open soul/grateful spirit underlines the steady lift in this lyric. ( I saw berni's comment, the scars wouldn't have occurred to me in that sense.)

The way you slowly evolve the lyrics over the consistent structure here, sometimes just one word per line at a time, is both effective and gentle here. I like this take. <3

I like the everyday details that reflect the narrator's desperate attempt to get on with life. The "scars on my arms" line is so telling of her past self harm or the harm done to her.
