Been working on this all day, need some fresh ears. How's the mix?
This will be #59 in the colection, started life during FAWM 2015.
All critical input welcome so I can put another on to rest in the collection! Songcraft, production, performance - have at it. Especially how's the mix levels in the real world? Your real world. Thanks so much for all the input help advice and encouragement so far! :)
Did a bunch of listening yesterday and I've still got 12 people on my return visit list. I'll be back in a few hours to happily pay out and listen to something other than the sound of my own voice.
Curio note: How many guitars have their own theme song? :)
I hope you enjoy!

Have You Seen Charlotte Lately by Wolf Kier
wk059 Copyright Wolf Kier 2015 2022
+++++++
She gonna, she gonna, she gonna hurt you
Have you seen Charlotte lately?
She got a note for you
Full metal, polished silver
Written with her trigger finger
She gonna, she gonna, she gonna hurt you
Have you seen Charlotte lately?
While you been doggin' round
She got your picture torn up
She's asking all over town.
She gonna, she gonna, she gonna hurt you
Have you seen? Have you seen? Have you seen?
Have you seen? (She gonna) Have you seen? Have you seen?
Have you seen Charlotte lately?
She's bad ass, she's mad as hell at you,
She's mad as, she's mad as hell,
She's gonna, she gonna, she gonna hurt you
(Solo)
Your phone rings, your door creaks,
Your car starts, your heart beats,
You're dead meat, you're going down
I told her where you'd be,
And here she is, here she be
Scorned and on fire, on fire, (Stop, drop and roll)
And so in love with me (Stop, drop and roll)
She gonna, she gonna, she gonna hurt you
Have you seen Charlotte lately?
She got a note for you
Full metal, polished silver
Written with her trigger finger
Have you seen Charlotte lately?
She got a note for you, boy,
Full metal, polished silver
Written with her trigger finger...
She gonna, she gonna, oh yeah, she gonna hurt you

I really like the keys part. It's catch and works really well harmonically. Mixwise, I might consider separating it further from the vox. Same goes for guitar. Could stand to widen the stereo field so that each instrument has the space it deserves. Rhythm section is solid as a rock as always and you think you've got your vocals totally dialed into a signature sound now. Well done! #tit4tat5

Really like the attitude in the delivery of this track, like the listener should be aware or concerned and you know all the details, nice percussion as well. #tit4tat.

Delightfully menacing. Mix sounds great to me. I love here she is here she be. Great urgent rhythm to the percussion. I’m looking over my shoulder. I’m sure I just saw her shadow. I’m always tending to make my bass sounds bright as I love Chris Squire and Jaco but this sounds perfect. Loved it.

Sexy, violent, and a bit scary. Everything to be a pleasant song ! Your voice on "Charlotte" made me think of the Young gods' Charlotte se touche. Witch is not violent nor scary (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLdYVgLar64).
I appreciate the threatening vibe. Gets you wondering what triggered Charlotte...

Ah, I had to listen to this one. Charlotte was a girlfriend I lost touch with in 1978 and I still wonder what happened to her.
This was a seriously erotic sounding pop ballad. Some great hooks too!
@tukayandryan Mar 2022
I'm a little jealous of Charlotte, not gonna lie. And a little scared of her if I'm honest...
Your performance is always on point. Great production. Love the guitars. Balance is great. The growl of your voice is addictive and infectious.

Tit4tat Cant beat a song with a girls name in. You settle into the groove instantly. I like the matter if fact delivery of unpleasantness. The music bed is spot on here! Good song
@writeandwrong Feb 2022
There's 'ol Charlotte! She is bad ass, just like her owner ;-) I love how you've given Charlotte such life, so many stories. Your passion for her comes through every time. "Scorned and on fire" with the (stop, drop, and rolls), superb writing!!! You never fail on delivering a fantastic performance! #tit4tat2
@andrea Feb 2022
Oh man, he messed with the wrong woman. Love the vocals. I like the music but can't offer any critique (sorry). Great story. I think the vibe of the music and vocals work really well. Cool song!
@mandolinda Feb 2022
Nice one. Charlotte is a lucky instrument to have you write a song for her. #tit4tat4
@williamjames Feb 2022
I love this song. The lyrics are great! Your voice is smoother than an airport strip as usual. The mix seems fine in my real world :)
@dzdandcunfsd Feb 2022
At 1:28-29 on the newest one on your bandcamp it sounds like there's a dip of sorts. I didn't notice it until a second and very loud listen... like a compressor did something funky, possibly? Could be intentional, as it does work for me it adds a bit of tension as to what Charlotte is gonna do to me :D That's all I can pick at, another amazing one down though! I'm loving that drum sound/rhythm, I'm not usually a fan of loud hats, but these need to be.
@nahlej381 Feb 2022
In my real-ish world the mix is great! I love your style so much! Lots of familiar sounds mixed up in a completely new way. Guitar sounds like butter
@wacha Feb 2022
I love the build you have as the song progresses. That beep voice compliments your voice and contrasts the higher synths really nicely. I like this one a lot!

Thanks for all the input so far. :)

Written with her trigger finger... awesome line. Cool as well. It is really hard to tell what could be better, mix-wise. It took me a few listens to find a possible clue as to why the vocals could be clearer, especially when you sing 'Have you seen Charlotte, lately?'. Maybe different settings as for reverb? When there's backing Wolf vocals (singing different lines), they could come down a hair? I'm guessing it's little things added up.
Also, I was wondering if a slightly different snare sound would work and if the hats could be a tiny little bit crispier? The hats are there, but not as present as I'd expect them to be. But I really like what I'm hearing, it's just little things.
@cindyrella Feb 2022
Creative, dark (like good chocolate), and a best to beat all! Another gem!
@musicsongwriter Feb 2022
Dark and delicious. Very cool song Wolf. Love your song and arrangement. I wouldn't change anything.
@jayjay Feb 2022
My money’s on Charlotte tbh
I would have pushed the bridge back a verse if it was me but mad good lyrics and vibe. Loved it
@eargoggle Feb 2022
first of all the title is great, it drew me right in. I love sort of second person songs like this- written from the point of view of not the main character but someone else. You know the De La Song song 'Millie Pulled a Pistol on Claus"? It's like that. toally different that this of course! Mix is great, love the interesting drum part. The only thing I'd say is that the vocals get buried a bit, the lyrics are great and I want to hear them, so you might want to pull the synths back a little maybe? Maybe.
@sbs2018 Feb 2022
Clever lyrics! Love the Frampton “Feel Like I Do” vibe at around a minute in. The opening “dot dot dot dot” sound isn’t my favorite but I suppose it works cuz it sounds like silver clanking. Absolutely obsessed with your vocals, as always.
@rayboneor Feb 2022
Dang, that's a dark lyric set in such a spacious, crisp piece of music. I love the way you sing this one, kind of a low-key growl. The litany of "your" this and "your" that is super. I really like this one. It's quite infectious, with a melody you can grab a hold of straight away, and that stays with you after the song is over.
@kahlo2013 Feb 2022
Deliciously dark lyrics. The mix sounds great. I love the use of repetition and the vocal delivery is superb. That bass line is cool and the beat is perfect. Love the layers. There was one part in the mid third where it seemed the vocals could have come through a little more - it felt a bit subliminal - which also was effective - depends on what you want. Great song!
