Well where to start.
For one thing, if all you have to worry about are existential threats then you really have nothing at all to worry about.
There seems to be a belief that the world as it is now, flawed though it may be, is how it always was and always will be. This is absolutely wrong.
For the majority of human history the world was a grim grim place for most humans. We seem to now have a nihilistic ideology that wants to tear it all down (while sipping Starbucks, tweeting on an iMac and instagramming on their iPhones.
The stupidity of these people is almost beyond description but in this song I did my best to describe people who are busily drilling holes in the bottom of the boat they are floating in.
rant over
Peace
Drilling holes in the bottom of the boat
You’re floating in
Stikes me as a trifle dumb
And you’re heading for a sticky end
Tearing down all you know
Ripping up the fabric of life
Your nihilistic ideology
Will sever your jugular like a knife
And you’ll bleed, you’ll bleed
There will be no sign of those who lead
And we will all find ourselves
Locked out in the cold
And you’ll see, you’ll see
Just what it is that you’re doing to me
When we all find ourselves
Locked out in the cold
Drilling holes in the bottom of the boat
Is what we now do
We think the world as it is
Is something we are not a party to
Tearing down all you know
Ripping up the fabric of life
Your nihilistic ideology
Will sever your jugular like a knife
And you’ll bleed, you’ll bleed
There will be no sign of those who lead
Calling for the revolution
As you type on your smart phone
And you’ll see, you’ll see
Just what it is that you’re doing to me
Sipping on your StarBucks
While the piper’s at the gates of doom

Great song. Interesting message. I disagree however that "For the majority of human history the world was a grim grim place for most humans." My understanding is that in the hunter gatherer era, which lasted eons, it was probably rare for tribes of humans to even meet, let alone compete much for food. Regardless, I do agree with your overmessage here. Nice clear voice. Quite listenable. Nice job.

This is really wonderful- elegant and outraged at the same time, which is not an easy combination to pull off. Great lyric and the music and performance adds a great deal. Sad that the lyric is so accurate these days!
great job!

Great liner notes and lyrics... I am amazed at how beautifully they are written... Excellent use of metaphors and the message becomes evident in a lovely way. I love the piano and your vocal delivery is superb!

There’s something very powerful in the juxtaposition of the gorgeous piano balladry with lines about slitting jugulars! It’s really effective, and you’re also absolutely right in terms of the central metaphor. Stupid bastards.

Very compelling and so musical. Awesome piano!

I truly love this song! The lyrics are great and pointed - I thought the music would be angry rock just looking at them - but your gorgeous vocals and melody and the piano works perfectly! I love the vocal leap you make! Beautiful music and great message/insight!

Yes, thanks for the suitable metaphor.
I will use that in the future.
Your liner notes are spot on.
Lovely piano ballad here; great contrast with the lyrics.
Excellent playing for sure.
Nice.

Great take and I agree! So many aren't even aware, and don't care. Good song!
