I'll have to come clean, I was browsing through the forums looking for ideas and one of them was about looking for band names and I thought, that's a good starting point, and this popped out. It really isn't about anyone at all, just some imaginary performer.
I skirt with the edges,
The dark side of music
I play in the smoke and the shadows
In vague silhouette, you don’t see my regrets
And I wear the appropriate clothes
To reflect on my pain and my sorrow
I’m not one of those
Who live for the poses
My integrity beyond any question
And when the lights go down
I play for the crowd
You should listen to my chord progressions
Then I get stuck on one note
And it seems like there’s no where to go
I break out the tricks,
Pentatonic licks
And the weirdness and the harmonics
Still skirting with the edges
On the light side of music
The smoke the shadows,
That’s me

Ah the complexity of the outsider not just within music, maybe more outside, but lots of nice musical metaphors and wibbly-wobbly lines between meaning something and being ironically sarcastic maybe - integrity a goal but often an uncertain one. We get accused of seeking attention, posing - when it's not really about that.

Witty with a touch of sad. Nice use of guitar in the intro. The story of the performer is all too real. Light and dark of music.
