Feb 2022 indie bishbashbosh
I decided to try and push something out in a sort of skirmish amount of time - I kept it simple for once, and tried to get a good 'full band' sound, which I tend to struggle with.
I used some lyrics that were previously REJECTED by a supposed collaboration FRIEND. I jest.
I may have totally ripped off the start of a JOFO song.
Side note - I must stop writing break up songs, my partner of 9 years is definitely going to get suspicious. Writing a song about being generally a-OK seems a bit meh though...
Your number on my screen
I didn't know if I should answer, in all honesty.
You ask me how I've been
And I don't know if I should answer, honestly
Your number on my screen, not your name
Another little victory
You ask me how I've been
And it feels OK to say, that I'm doing OK
You didn't mean to call that much is clear -
but you regain your composure
Do you remember the last time you were here?
The last time that you told me that you'd see me later
talk soon.
You couldn't find your keys
and you burnt mouth
on reheated coffee
and you slammed the door
as you were heading out
and the words slipped out.

Yeah, that pop vibe is totally shining through, those picked guitars lines are really nice. Great lyrics here, big fan of the 'Your number on my screen, not your name / Another little victory'. The overlapping vocals at the end remind me a bit of cLOUDDEAD

A fine blast of wonky punky pop! That arpeggiated guitar is ace. Really like the lyrics, especially the second verse, which is really clever.
@owl Feb 2022
I really like those jangly picked guitar parts! This has a nice drive to it. Great series of little scenes in the lyrics that tell the story.

Trying to identify the JoFo song... maybe Salt Pepa And Spinderalla but it's not too close so I think you get away with it. Love the vocal overlaps in this, the way the end of a line crashes into the start of the next gives it a real sense of urgency.

I love the guitar voicings the vox are a great fit too reminds me ween a little bit (major compliment from me) ya I love this dude!
@vomvorton Feb 2022
Of course you can just blast out three or four instant-classic guitar parts in a "skirmish amount of time"! Outrageous behaviour. Glad these lyrics found a home, and I hope your partner understands that they're fictional!
@fuzzy Feb 2022
Great doubled vocals here.
Excellent clean crisp guitar figures.
I dunno, I'd like to hear a song about just sitting on the couch eating snacks and petting the cat with one's partner...
@seemanski Feb 2022
You and me have a very meaning of the word simple. That said this is simple (for you). There is still some clever little guitar licks in there. Your vocals sound really nice, great harmonies.
@mattoxic Feb 2022
Cool, the effects on the vocals the delivery is great - as is your voice. Reminds me very much of late UK punk.
btw, I only ever write breakup songs, my relationship is one loooong breakup, I keep it that way for the inspiration and lyrics.

You managed to get some good layering in there if you were going for a "sort of skirmish amount of time" and I think you pretty much nailed the sound. "Your number on my screen, not your name / Another little victory" genius lyrics there.
Don't worry, I won't tell your partner you've been writing break-up songs! I'm kind of in two minds about the happy song/sad song thing, you don't want everything to be bleak and miserable, but as Therapy? said, happy people have no stories. Though now I think of it, they probably nicked that one from Tolstoy, didn't they?
