Feb 2022 acoustic french horns oohs and percussion
I wrote this one by stealing the chords to one of my favourite songs, (by The Lemonheads- shhh, don't tell anyone) then inverted the chords and played them in a totally different timing and strum pattern. The words were supposed to be just placeholders as they came out as I was writing them but couldn't find anything to replace them with. Lots of reverby oohs and French horns in this one. Percussion is brushes played on my desk.
If you're wasting time,
Please stop wasting mine,
I was doing fine without you.
And as you walked by,
You couldn't meet my eye,
and I wonder why?
What did I do?
It's been three long years,
You can't let things go,
My word, you can hold a grudge!
Can't you...

I find your words very beautiful and appropriate to a "lost love" song. Beautifully sung and arranged.

Such a beautiful song, melody, vocals, guitar,

Ha ha thats not stealing. You being musically very clever by using the inversion classical composers tool. And thank good ness you did. and lordy the layering of everything is so well mixed and i adore the three long years bit. . Really enjoyed this. I could literally listen to a whole album of this type of acoustic tune.

I’m a massive fan of them reverby ‘oohs’, which become an instrument in themselves, and the layering of the vocals in that 2nd verse. Really enjoying the directness of this lyric too, said everything it needed to say in 11 lines. Nice instrumental before the repeated chorus too - it signalled the passing of time and holding onto the grudge perfectly

Simple and devastating. Love the rhyme pattern and it's killer when the harmonies kick in at the chorus. Really effective melancholy arrangement and mix - especially the way you back off to just the guitar at the end. I loved this.

Beautiful song. Love the emotional tension in the vocals. Just well done all the way around. Thank you for sharing!

Such great repetition on "three long years". Just makes me feel the annoyance of the time. Great evocative vocals and the instrumentation fits this so well.

Wow this is so beautiful! your singing is just the right amount of tender and broken. The guitar chords are wonderful, and tbh it sounds like your source probably stole them from Pachabel.

You just take your time with this one (and every other one) and I admire that so much. Great mix, as everything has its place and is contributing in a meaningful way--resulting in a great listen to a great song. So good.

I like your method for figuring out the chords - I’m going to have to try that sometime! I wouldn’t have been able to tell the words were placeholders. I love the chorus, with the brush percussion and the “oohs”

This is so gentle and sounds fabulous. I'm loving your vocals on this. The harmonies are perfect for the song. And brushes on a desk? They sound great!
@w1n Feb 2022
Sounds really good, the mix sounds very well done, those backing vocals are so lush. Would never imagined the percussion being pencils.
@xfloorpunchx Feb 2022
Percussions on a desk ? Wow sounds great! Love the reverbered layers on this song. Congrats for this lovely song!
@celineellis Feb 2022
I love it when I sing 'randomness' just to see how the whole thing is sounding and it ends up sticking. these are some awesome improv lyrics - subconciousness! the horns and oos really lift the ambience of the track. Definitely a keeper!
I also love that you played brushes on your desk - it was such a gorgeous percussion sound I am totally going to try that
@tan482 Feb 2022
Loving the layering of this one. So pretty!

This one is a trip, and I mean that in the best possible way. I love how you've painted a complete picture in 11 lines. This has got a lot of emotive angst to it that I really like. The verby vocals and horns really add to the haunting nature of it. And those brushes sound awesome! Nicely done.
