it's my first new song in over 4 years! i could spend another week tweaking it, but fawm, y'all...
songwriting notes:
the title and four of the better lyrics came from a fruitful session with a GPT-J 6B neural network at textsynth.com/playground.html
production notes:
i had no pop filter, gotta fix the vocals after feb.
because of my current circumstances, all production and mixing was done on headphones, no studio monitors.
my feet is about to fall off
my chest are aching to cough
so i hack a week of desert and dust
how's a guy supposed to lie on the ground
and fall asleep to the sound
of the world about to wake itself up
i had an uncle i could work this about
but since my auntie moved out
he's afraid and doesn't answer my calls
we've been waiting it out for twenty-four days the whole time
we've been playing it out for twenty-six years the whole time
oh let's make love and die and die til we're happy and die
my hands is about to collapse
my throat are closing perhaps
i relapse and wanna play with your curls
how's a man gonna just walk away
without his vitamin k
or a burner phone to last him a few days
i had this uncle we could talk it all out
but auntie laid him about
i'm afraid he wouldn't answer my calls

This makes me so happy to hear! The die die die in the chorus tickles me immensely for some reason, as well as a number of these lines. The deliberate singular/plural disregard too, how fun. I'm particularly impressed though by the somewhat unpredictable melody and a little baffled as to how that comes about, but it's a bafflement I appreciate just like I appreciate hearing new IQ! Listening again.
@elainedimasi Feb 2022
Got an immediate image of setting out for 40 days and nights alone in the desert and - nothing is as expected to say the least!
Oh how I fall in love with that wormy bass when it comes in.
Terrifically groovy track, which is what I come to your board for. Lyrics so sly. I am not disappointed! The uncle/auntie characters seem like a stroke of genius. They're like a slash of light from a window we hadn't noticed before, lighting up some slanty side of the "I" that stops us in our tracks when we notice it.
Then we go on dancing.
Download.

Without getting into too much detail, I just wanna say how much I love this song. EVERYTHING about it. It's just soooo good. I wanna listen to it a second time, which, to me, is the mark of a great tune. Thanks for sharing! :-)
@datsch Feb 2022
That chorus vocal harmony is delicious and distinctive, and I enjoyed the burbly bass synth. Enjoy your comeback!
@debrandio Feb 2022
This is a truly fun and fantastic track!!!
Nice guitar lick
More, more, more!!!!
@burrsettles Feb 2022
i copped your strategy to let gpt-j help come up with lyrics (took a lot of hyparameter tweaking to get it out of an infinite loop). the "vitamin k / burner phone" verse is fire. as are the harmonies. nice simple groove that builds up and keeps it lively.
man, it's good to hear some new music from you again. :)
@roblincoln Feb 2022
From the first time I heard you many FAWMS back I have had you on my watch list, so hearing a new song from you is very exciting. And you did not disappoint. Totally unique lyrical take on things and catchy wonderfully odd chord progression and melody. "how's a man gonna just walk away without his vitamin K" Love it!
@paulotteson Feb 2022
Glad you're back - Love the first tune. Nice slow build, and a great vibe. Nice easy delivery, and beautiful vocal harmonies at the end.. cheers!
@caterwauler Feb 2022
It feels good to hear your sound again! It builds up nicely, setting a relaxed, really pleasant atmosphere. The vocal harmonies cut a fine figure, and the odd lyrics add a mysterious vibe. Your melodies still float inside my head after the song has stopped. Lovely.
@debs Feb 2022
Oooo an IQ song - I've missed you! I love how this builds - I smiled more and more with each layer. These lyrics are so interesting, the chorus packs such a punch I'm so intrigued by the noun/verb mismatch in the verses. I'd be so curious to hear which lyrics came from the network!
@mikedebenham Feb 2022
Jeez I've missed hearing you. Hooky like a day off school and deeply idiosyncratic, in that special IQ way. And I will never not love a timing fakeout at the beginning of a song. I'd praise my favourite lines but that might encourage the Singularity. I am pleased.
@autoclamp Feb 2022
Oh HELL yes. HELL YES.
@jackdawfactories Feb 2022
I am so happy to hear you back! That's a great guitar riff to base the song on, and the lyrics are fun. LOVE that squelchy bass.
@faceofeinstein Feb 2022
So good to hear a new isaacq song. I dig the guitars, but I think even more so the synth bass underneath, and the little drum fills (or stutters). I didn't notice the lack of pop filter to be honest. Vocal melody will be stuck in my head until I start working on my own song this evening I'm sure. It got a double listen. I was just rocking out to the IQ I had on my phone a couple weeks ago. Hope this isn't it for the month!
@tspoon Feb 2022
wow. its been awhile. this sounds fantastic
@nancyrost Feb 2022
What a vacation perk! I don't know what's coming from the neural network, but this sounds very you to me. There's so much to love here. That chorus! Says so much in three lines. The world about to wake itself up, the collapse/perhaps/relapse verse. I love the way the arrangement builds, the bubbly bass, the plinky keys. This makes me happy!
@adforperu Feb 2022
Well this is a lovely surprise! This is why I don't trim my watchlist due to inactivity, just in case :) I always love your lyrics, and straight in with the nonsensical "my feet is about to fall off" and I'm hooked (even if that is an AI line!). Really, this is such a great vibe, those ultra clean guitars paired with the synth bass is such a delight. Vocals are so great too, the backing vocals are sublime, and I love the call and response ending. Welcome back!
@vomvorton Feb 2022
Yay, welcome back! Really enjoyed this, there's such a nice angular rhythm to those guitar chords and vox (but of a Talking Heads vibe?) and it's so satisfying when that squelchy bass kicks in. The lyric is so odd and smile-inducing, especially "wanna play with your curls"!
@derekburle Feb 2022
Ooh that squelchy bass! Very catchy melody and great lyrics
@mikegtz Feb 2022
Welcome back to songwriting with this adorable little tune, Issac Q! This is all kinds of catchy and is about equal parts sense and nonsense.
@katbasie Feb 2022
The song-writing is so good it's really intriguing :)
@jlampson Feb 2022
Save refinement for March and get the song written now - great advice to yourself! I really like the arrangement you have so far, slowly bringing in more instruments as the song progresses, and oh that synth bass! I hope you keep that in the final cause it's rad!
I love the quirkiness of the lyrics and it leads to so many more questions about who this person is and it's ridiculously way more stuck in my head than I was expecting with a title like this. Keep rocking it!
@candle Feb 2022
I've really missed your music. And this fills that void so nicely. I really love the guitars on this. And your witty lyrics are catchy & thought provoking as always. Awesome start to FAWM, mon ami!
