This one I plan to musicify myself as I'm really proud of it, even if its a bit dark and tragic.
It is based on this video that came up on my FB feed years ago, and more recently (before FAWM). I wrote it earlier this week but didn't want it to be my first FAWM song, so I put it in as #4

Verse 1
They did as they were told
On a great big old grey boat
In the middle of the blue,
As you do
They had no idea
Their leaders didn’t care
The numbers had to be true,
As they do
CHORUS
Head down, close your eyes
No, this won’t be suicide
Head down, say your prayers
There’s nothin out here to fear
Bright light, biggest boom
There’s no escape from the doom
Grown men, terrified
Still crying In. the. Night.
In the night
<instrumental>
Verse 2
One by one they fell
One by one they fell
Years ticked slowly by
One by one they fell
Buried Side by side
Buried Side by side
Eternal brothers-in-arms
Buried Side by side
CHORUS
Head down, close your eyes
No, this won’t be suicide
Head down, say your prayers
There’s nothin’ out here to fear
Bright light, biggest boom
There’s no escape from the doom
Grown men, terrified
Still crying In. the. Night.
In the night
Bridge
Atomic
Atomic
Atomic
Atomic
Atomic
Atomic
Atomic
Atomic
CHORUS
Head down, close your eyes
No, this won’t be suicide
Head down, say your prayers
There’s nothin’ out here to fear
Bright light, biggest boom
There’s no escape from the doom
Grown men, terrified
Still crying In. the. Night.
In the night

That chorus is very vivid. You can see the cloud and the terror. I'm really curious to see how you're going to do that bridge, 'cause that word has a great percussive quality

Christine, this is awesome! I love that very first line "they did as they were told"; it really sets the tone! Brilliant chorus! I love the rhyme of "your eyes" with "suicide"! This is really well written and I look forward to hearing it!

I think you've captured the moment and the terrifying reality well.
