Feb 2022 fawmtronica goth week2
So, this began as the combination of 2 challenges. I had already signed up for the Movie Title challenge and received "Boogie Nights". I've never seen it before, but my instant feeling was to create a boogie song. Something funky. I knew I had to do something audio rather than just lyrics. In fact, there are no lyrics on this song at all! This will likely be my only audio song for this FAWM, other than the acapella I did for "My Boobs".
The second challenge was the Week 2 challenge, to use only 1 note. I took this rather literally. What you're hearing is 100% made up of D notes. D is nice. I like D. This is also 6 instances of Sytrus in FL Studio, plus a single crash cymbal (also tuned to D), so I very nearly used only 1 plugin for the entire thing! Although I did use reverb and delay on the crash, and EQ on the least-pleasant Sytrus track as well as a master EQ. It sounds a little bassy in headphones, but great on laptop speakers.
In the end, I didn't wind up making anything funky. I'd intended to use Sytrus because I only recently realised that it had a huge list of options. Previously I'd never clicked that button before. The options had strings, orchestra, wind, etc. I figured, "Hey! I can make an orchestral song that's nice and funky!" Turns out, no. Sytrus is very much a synth. So instead, here, have a goth instrumental! :D I actually really like this. It's probably the best FAWMtronica I've ever made.
(I'm not counting this for the movie title challenge. I'll try something else.)
Enjoy!

This was a very enjoyable listen and it's impressive that you squeezed 2 challenges into such a short and airy tune. Well done!

Brilliant interpretation and execution of the one-note challenge. Hooray for experimenting and trying out new things and ending up with something that wasn't what you expected! The results are great.

Sytrus can do a ton; I used to use FL Studio as my DAW a while back; it's really fun for programming stuff. Impressed with all you managed to do with just D notes and chords here.

Listened before reading the liner notes and didn't even realize it's a one-note thing, I just thought it sounded very spacious and harmonically ambiguous to the point of sounding mystical. Great use of different sounds, cool atmosphere!

Great use of that one note..... its hard to keep that entertaining, but you did it!

This is probably as "one-note" as it ever gets on FAWM. It's an interesting experiment, shows you can do a lot with one note. I like how the result has some kind of suspense, because of the single note and all the different sounds you got from this single synth. Also, great to read how you got the ideas that lead to this.

Sytrus had been my favourite synthesizer when I started to produce music. It's quite easy to handle and sounds nice. Writing an electronic song on a single note is legit. I think you nailed the one nite challenge

Man, it's D, but an awesome D. Like in Dirk Diggler (check out the movie and that reference will make sense!). One of Mark Wahlberg's early films, and a soundtrack that's frankly better than the movie. But, I digress....
