Song #4 for this year's FAWM is my first fully acoustic track of the year. I wanted to lean into a focus on lyric writing and set a great poem to some soaring steel-stringed guitar. It's a beautiful piece and I'm very happy with it. It reflects my spirit in a very true way. This is a song about knowing in your heart that your time on earth is short. You can't control everything, you can't change everything, it's a gift for you to enjoy. And if you're lucky you can leave something behind to touch lives after you've gone on to the next place. For me, it's my music. I hope it can reach some people while I'm still here, too! Let me know what you think <3
Time was cold and
Cold was time
And I was just a
Child of the universe
The river of eternity
Was washing me
Across the ages
Of the earth
Still on the banks
Stood the memories
I have become
Weathered and incomplete
Bleached in the
Unbiased sun
Flying by my field of view
Was every time I looked
Upon you lovingly
The homes I rested bones inside
While time was flying by
My window frigidly
The tears of a man as I
Stood in the sand
By the sea
The footsteps I left
In the woods with my friends
History
One day I’ll come to my rest
I’ll flow down no more
I’ll take my leave of the water
And walk on the shore
I’ll stand and wave at the people
Still floating on by
On toward
Who knows
Happily
I’ll be a piece of the
Memory of Everything
Time was cold and
Cold was time
And I was just a
Child of the universe
The River of eternity
Was washing me
Across the ages
Of the earth
Now I stand on the banks
The memories
I have become
Stuck to the scenery
Waiting
A song to be sung
One day I’ll come to my rest
I’ll flow down no more
I’ll take my leave of the water
And walk on the shore
I’ll stand and wave at the people
Still floating on by
On toward
Who knows
Happily
I’ll be a piece of the
Memory of Everything
I’ll be a piece of the
Memory of Everything
I’ll be a piece of the
Memory of Everything

This is beautiful, Julian - great chord progression and beautiful performance. I love the lines "One day I’ll come to my rest
I’ll flow down no more/I’ll take my leave of the water/And walk on the shore" - very thoughtful and profound.

I concur with the Nick Drake vibes thing, which is high praise indeed, right? That guitar tone you've got going on is beautiful, really nice high frequency string noises in alongside the full bodied low-mids. Sounds very full and rich basically. I also love that central image of the river, the washed up memories and finally coming to rest on the banks.

Wow, that was beautiful. Love the melody, the guitar playing, the sound (that's a really great sounding guitar btw) and these metaphorical lyrics, poignantly brought across. Everything top notch.

You sir, are a master of your craft. Loved everything here. Beautiful song.

Ethereal. Sounds like the lovechild of Nick Drake and Dawes. You and the acoustic sing sweetly, the melody is glides about and the lyrics are chock full of cool images and mystery. Not much not to like.

Initially, I was just floating in the waves of your vocals and playing, which are delicious, and then I started paying attention to the lyrics. Man, you've got the whole package here.

Love the 6/8 time. I am getting Joni Mitchell and Nick Drake vibes, and I think you might be in an alternative tuning. Love those gorgeous chords under your smooth velvety vocals. Oh I love how you went to fingerpicking for a bit in the middle. Excellent guitar playing. Completely agree with you life philosophy, and you expressed it very well in your lyrics. A really beautiful song.

Wow, this is, indeed, really beautiful. I get a Nick Drake vibe with the guitar and the poetic lyrics, and a little Jack Johnson in your vocal delivery and vibe (I hope you take both as a compliment, I am VERY into this!) Love the kind of country-ish solo, too. These lyrics are really wonderful -- love the rhythm of them, and so many wonderful images. The little verse about being in the woods with a friend particularly struck me, but each line is kind of perfect. Really beautiful work!
