Just a quick and dirty train song for Skirmish today! Prompt: Train Station
UPDATE: just updated the the link to play a revised version with expanded lyrics and more production.
Verse 1:
I don't relate much to trains
but I like the idea of them
Seems like other people's way
but I like the steam and steel of them.
Prechorus: I drive by the train, I drive by the station
Chorus:
There's a long arm coming down
See people waiting around
The stairs go down where there's no sunlight
Hear a long low whistle in the night.
Verse 2:
I took a ride one time for fun
in an old fashioned diner car
The engine ran by coal and steam
the trip was quick and not too far
Verse 3:
Once these were the ruling rails
Before the highway system came
And tycoons of industry prevailed
Now car pollution's in our veins

I love this song! I love the lyrics. It's unlike any train song I've ever heard. Particularly, the first verse. Then it becomes more traditional while staying original. I could see a lot of people wanting to cover this song.

Really like your chorus. The space before the last line is great. Good skirmish track.

Steam trains are certainly much more fun :). Nice chorus!

I love those opening lines, and how there are those people in our lives who are really "train people" and you have a healthy and sympathetic perspective about that.

That's a cool chorus, and I love the hook line on the end. Very good writing.
