Ah I struggled with this over several days. But I think it was worth it. I wanted to do shoegaze so it’s showered with reverb-y fuzz but it’s come out a bit more alt rock with some Radiohead thrown in. Originally the main chorus vocal was what has become the backing vocal- I felt it sat better lower in the mix under the guitars and added a lead vocal part that runs just ahead of it with the same lyrics (mainly centred on one note so ticks that challenge box!)
Anyone familiar with the current political situation in the UK can probably work out what this one’s about, but we can all recognise the type of politician who thinks they know a lot more than they do and are where they are through privilege rather than ability or suitability.
Used my new ‘66 Fender Musicmaster modded with ‘60s goldfoils and they sound massive ;)
Guitar: ‘66 Musicmaster II w/ DeArmond Goldfoils
Amp: Supro Blues King 12
Pedals: Magnetic Effects White Atom fuzz, Hudson Broadcast, 1981 Inventions DRV, Strymon Flint and Deco, Endless Sleeper Beautiful Noise delay
Logic Pro X synth plugin
Bass: Yamaha 5 string
Bold as brass but only half as bright
Cos it’s a god-given birthright
Assume they’re never wrong, it’s just implied
But don’t talk back you see it’s impolite
It’s all that hot air you’re blowing
Stood on your soapbox all-knowing
My god your pig-ignorance is growing
Failing and flailing again and again and again
Fools rush in to amplify your lies
Devils and saviours stand intertwined
2 and 2 isn’t always five
One more false word to the unwise
It’s all that hot air you’re blowing
Stood on your soapbox all-knowing
My god your pig-ignorance is growing
Failing and flailing again and again
[sunlit uplands breakdown]
It’s all that hot air you’re blowing
Stood on your soapbox all-knowing
My god your pig-ignorance is growing
Failing and flailing again and again and again
My god your pig-ignorance is growing
Failing and flailing again and again and again

Wow, you almost have a J. Mascis kind of tone on this one with that really dense sound. I love the riffs and how your melody goes over the top of it all. The message may be centered on the UK, but it seems pretty universal these days. Yeah, not very shoe gazey, but a very cool song!

I definately get a bit Radiohead, but I think more about early Incubus with all that fuzz and syncopation. I loved the bridge being such a contrast to the rest of this song. Yes, this is a strong rocker. But I'm still puzzled about the meaning of the lyrics. Blowing hot air = pointless trash talking? #tit4tat

Nice guitar work once more. I love the sound of the Musicmaster. I wish I had one like that for sure. I play my single coil work on a Telcaster 60's anniversary and the hum bucker stuff on a homebuilt Les Paul. Good song with nice bridge slowing down and building up again.
Peace

Those synths squeeking and bouncing between the guitars is all that, compelling listening that grabs the listener by the horns. Your vocal tone brings to mind the infinately more talented Finn brother which is always a happy sound for me to hear
I wouldn't know shoegaze from shinola, so I can't tell if you hit the sound you were after, but I love the sound you got. The mix/arrangement is interesting and compelling, the hooks are strong, I don't know a thing about british politics either, nor do I care to, but the more general universally relatable sentiment of useless politicians is clear and packs a punch, without localizing, dating, and estranging a wider audience. Good, intelligent, move. :)
Well done indeed. You've got a ton of talent.
#Tit4tat1 - I got a feeling Ima enjoy this exchange. Let's do this. thanks so much for your kind words and generous input earlier. Much appreciated.

Love the middle breakdown, the sound is amazing, production is great on this track, full of exciting elements. The guitars sounds more nu-metal than shoe gaze to me (more Korn than Limp Biskit :)). I particularly like the space before the guitar kicks in with the synth line playing over it.
It's really tricky writing about politics but I think you've nailed it here, particularly like the 'all the hot air you're blowing' line. Especially in chorus 2 when the bk vocals are also playing around with the phrase in echo. The guitars sounds so fat, imagine the crowd when the breakdown section kicks in!
@cleanshoes Feb 2022
Yeah. Definitely relatable and applicable to more than a few public figures. Love the fuzz guitar, and layering the chorus was a great choice. I think that's my favorite part!
@crutherford Feb 2022
Yes!!!
grabbed me with the wall of sound right away.
love the term pig-ignorance
great job bringing it down in the solo
loved the dynamics
my fav lines were this verse:
Fools rush in to amplify your lies
Devils and saviours stand intertwined
2 and 2 isn’t always five
One more false word to the unwise
Bravo!

Well done! So great production- I like it.
@sarahk Feb 2022
Wow, outstanding. Well written lyrics, excellent musicianship, top notch performance and production!
@mikeskliar Feb 2022
This is really wonderful- the music and production are stellar and really quite something. Love that quiet breakdown before the storm that comes again... great dynamics and textures and playing. That lyric is strong, and just vague enough to apply to so many situations all over the place, but specific enough to sting. Fantastic write and production and all! Wish i could download it!
@toms Feb 2022
Great sounds, the bass in particular, and the sunlit break is really excellent. Also huge props for making "pig-ignorance" work as a lyric!
@bithprod Feb 2022
Yummy production, tight and dynamic! Great instrumentation. As a Billy Bragg fan, I like your edgy political commentary as well. Needs more screaming, though. ;)
@jtsteam Feb 2022
This definitely fits a good few people! Great stuff, I'd like to hear more political songs. I like how the vocals fit together, and that's a nice fuzz sound too.
@n1742 Feb 2022
so much going for this song. great guitars and bass. love the two vocals sort of competing and then joining together. the music master sounds terrific. and great contrasting quieter middle section with the exciting build up. we need more dynamic contrasts in music. excellent.
@potentialspam Feb 2022
Fuzzy perfection. I like the synth lead at the beginning and the vocals trading off during the chorus. Nice work!
