Feb 2022 girl-with-guitar love-song demo lullaby
Inspired by all the lovely musicians here who record songs with their mobile phones and post them, I also wanted to do so. Not fiddling with EQ and stuff is nice sometimes. It’s also the way I use to record ideas. That’s why I have 135 voice memos on my iPhone, some of them are just hummed melodies that were recorded outside, or in the bathroom, where I sneak out at night when I have an idea.
For this song I used my very cheap nylon string guitar, which I like though, especially for fingerpicking. I also experimented with popular chord progressions today to get inspired, so this is apparently the „50s doo wop“.
The song turned out as some kind of unreciprocated love song. Funny how a chord progression that’s commonly used for love songs makes you write one.
In the beginning you will hear my neighbors. I left it in because I found it fitting to the „writing a lonely love song in the dorm“ theme.
This is the song of all songs
To keep you safe
And to make you feel warm
This is my message to you
Believe it or not
Yeah, you are being loved
Too
And though I can’t
Make you fall
In love with me
Oh I will make sure
To keep you safe and
To make you feel warm
So I wrote you this song
In my dorm
And when I go
To sleep all too soon
I will think of you
In the gloom
And maybe you will
Think of me too
Cause I wrote this song
Just for you

I’m always impressed with how well music can be recorded on an iPhone. This is wonderful. I like the nylon string guitar sound with your finger pick. Nice sentiment to the lyrics and a genuine and sweet vocal delivery.

Love the line " So I wrote you this song
In my dorm"...very cool. Nice guitar playing and your voice is very smooth and has a great timbre...ideal for love songs.
We like the same kinda stuff maybe a collab for next Feb or 5090 if you are doing it...that would be fun.

Oooh I love it! I’m gonna listen again :D 50s doo wop is my viiibe man, I can just eat it up and makes me feel so happy :)
I AM very jealous, your guitar and singing is the bestest!! <3

Just a lovely song. Bare and raw recording. The production version should be as sparse. Really nice work.

This would be so easy for undergraduates to identify with. All those unrequited obsessions we go through at that age. I wouldn't return to my adolescent years for a thousand bitcoins :-)

A beautiful, calm and intimate song I enjoyed listening to. It brims with honesty and warmth, and the chord progression fits it really nicely. Great work!

I love this! It's funny, this is my first year doing FAWM outside of my college dorm since I recently graduated. This is a beautiful little song though. Reminds me of college.

I didn't expect a singer-songwriter ballad. You're super versatile and it's nice to hear another side. A short and heartfelt write. And I dig the part with your neighbours.
FAWM is the only place where it's okay to record with a mobile phone ;-) I could spent hours on production and making everything sounding nice, but what's the deal of a top notch recording of a crappy song?! My 2 cents.

This is just perfect. The song is beautifully served by the way you've chosen to perform and capture it. I love the sound of nylon strung guitars! You've inspired me to get mine out now. :-)

I have a very crappy nylon string I almost never record, but it is what I probably play the most. They'll always have a special place in my heart as it is what I first played.
This is really heartfelt and touching, and quite sad. For my tastes something like this only works in such an intimate and stripped down way. Great track!

Don't let Jewel hear this. She'll get jealous. Very lovely singing here and the song is making feel very relaxed.
