Been working really hard on the WK100 collection, as much joy as frustration. This one is #31 in the collection and was first "proposed" as a draft during 5090 2013, but I never quite had the technical skills to pull off the kind of production it begged for (perhaps I still don't but I'm closer now). 35 tracks of dancing frequency monkeys all playing tricks round my head for over 7 hours more work these past few days.
Some curiosity notes:
1) this is one of several songs in the collection that I call my "super-sonics" or "overload" songs. I'm thinking, maybe, I should group these different styles into about 7 stylistic sub albums apart from the WK100 monolith (?)
2) Songs like this make me want to learn to mix surround sound. LOL.
3) The hook comes from something I always ask myself when I'm working on a song: "Did you tilt the record machine?".
Anyway, any and all constructive criticism that you think would make this song better/perfect/done is more than welcome. Have at it.
I've been really bad about returning listens, I know, please forgive me, but I have a list of about 20 names here that's growing every day and all will be visited, it's just I'm like a dog with a bone right now so this massive undertaking gets done, properly, finally.... to the absolute best of my skillset. If I don't kill it, it will kill me! :)
Thanks for all the encouragement .
I hope you enjoy.
Hugs.

Did you laugh? Did you smile?
Did you frown? Did you cry?
Did you do all that today?
Did you tilt the record machine?
I can't tell you how to live your life
I won't be here when the mud starts to slide
Did you laugh? Did you cry? Did you?
Did you stop to wonder why? I wonder.
The holy man's gun in the dresser it hides?
Did you tilt the record machine?
I can't tell you how to live your life
I won't be here when the worlds collide
Through the holy mysteries of our redemption, may almighty God release you from all punishments in this life and in the life to come. May he open to you the gates of paradise and welcome you to everlasting ...
JOY!

Best summed up by that old expression. "Organised Chaos" :-)
Not usually my scene, but i stuck around till the end for this one. THUMBS UP...

I always love your bass work. The combo of your bass sound and your vocal delivery has a way of turning down the lights and durning up the smoke machine in the club. I see what you mean about the technical challenge on the drum programming. I find it so hard to have the patience to craft distinct sections rather than just settle into a good groove and you've clearly done that here. Great job on this! #tit4tat4
@hmorg Mar 2022
True to the name, this starts full tilt. Very energetic, sort of a post punk/new wave meets late 90s electro feel. Tight black jeans and button down shirts, lots of product in the hair, fast sunglasses, lights blinking frantically, casting beams through theater smoke. Awesome! I'll let you know later if I can think of constructive criticism, but I'm not that well versed in this kind of music.
@cheslain Mar 2022
Is this maybe flirting a bit with the genre they call hyperpop? Mixed with some avant garde aesthetics. I love all the hectic, frantic things happening all around. Still it manages to be quite catchy. Well constructed.
@heliosonorous Mar 2022
Great electro sounds within this, really nice drums, the pacing changes are varied, and the extras added give this a lot of depth. #tit4tat.

I don't understand how to make music like this, but I love it! So many cool and awesome sounds going on, and they work together so perfectly. I love the spoken word part. Sounds like something from a movie score. Super cool!
@edwardsmusic Mar 2022
I like the hectic drumbeat and synths. The time changes are surprising, but interesting! Love the bass, piano and vocals in particular. "Did you tilt the record machine?" is a nice line! #tit4tat2
@gm7 Mar 2022
Super intro. Great time changes. I always like you basslines and that snappy snare. This must have been a production nightmare I would say..so much going on. #tit4tat1

This is so slick and tricky! The complexity is crazy. It reminds me of wait for it… “Turn it on again” by Genesis. I know you think I’m crazy but it is how it seamlessly place a straight forward hook over odd time changes and the listener is drawn in without understanding why. True craftsman my friend.
@headfirstonly Feb 2022
Loving the switching time signature. There's something profoundly satisfying when my brain figures out what's going on. And the unusual beat helps emphasise the uncertainty that's driving all those questions...
Splendid stuff!

Great write, I think this production is awesome I really like the production of the chorus, the tapping and speed, like built in angst. This is really good.
@matthijs Feb 2022
That drumgroove is so infectious, i love it. I think you could improve the chorus a bit by being more energetic vocally, so it fits the intensity of the instrumental. but i still enjoyed it a lot!
@colgoo Feb 2022
So joyful! Very unique sound. Nice work.
@dzdandcunfsd Feb 2022
Super sonic is very apt! It is indeed a pure blissful sonic adventure.
Such a busy mix, but its masterfully done. I tried to find some nits to pick, but you're getting nada from me on this one.
I've not done any surround sound recording or mixing, but have done some fun stuff at venues running instead of the full out to each PA speaker running individual mono signals to individual ones, some being doubled/trippled up. It worked great if you were lucky enough to be in the middle and not too close to any individual speaker LOL.
Have also known some bands to use a lot of digital delays on each out to get a really awesome oscillating effect on certain signals. A lot of really cool stuff that could be done mixing in surround, but as a friend I'd worry about your sanity a bit knowing how much you put into even stereo mixing LOL, but might be a really fun rabbit to chase.
@sunnymae Feb 2022
What a rush! 9/8 into 4/4 very cool time shifts between the verse and chorus. That and your slowly paced vocals work great against the superfast beats. Yeah...I dig this one. I can see some value in categorizing accordingly. I'm doing that now, but find there are gray areas and not always sure which folder to put them in. Happy filing! :0)
@scubed Feb 2022
I closed my eyes and held on tight for a most delightful musical ride. I love your vocals floating on top of the incredible sounds, and those evocative lyrics resonate on many different levels. Amazing!
@williamjames Feb 2022
Loved the calm break in the middle. thechaotic parts are very well mixed, I would not know where to even start with this kind of undertaking. Hypnotic song that seemed to grow on me the further it went on.
@ferry0123 Feb 2022
That new kind of attention at 0.29 always makes me go: yeah. This mix is great, and as for details: that 'tilty', swipe-ery guitar at 2.20-2.21 is a great touch!
@katestantonsings Feb 2022
I imagine Wolf with headphones in his studio obsessing over sound like a mad scientist! Kidding aside, this sounds awesome to me!! My ears enjoyed it.
@sbs2018 Feb 2022
Love the vocals - lol! It's so cool that you go back in years later and improve the song. I'd be curious to do the same but I think enough time would have to pass to gain the skills and I'm not sure I'm there yet.
I had a bit of fun with surround sound with the latest LogicPro upgrade. My problem was uploading that kind of file any place where people could hear it.
@cindyrella Feb 2022
I need to be cleaning, but how can I resist a Wolf song? Impossible and this is impossibly good! Love the beat and sort of frenzy like feel. Excellent!
@dragondreams Feb 2022
Wow! This is frenetic, and so polished. Great vocals delivering a punchy lyric. Loads of stuff happening, with great dynamic twists. Yep. Another classic. :-)
@wobbiewobbit Feb 2022
tight punchy sound. i like the melody of the bass part. really steams along with a tension throughout. full of wolfie goodness
