This is just this reflective song about the pandemic I wrote this morning. I wanted to focus on writing lyrics in a more structured way, counting syllables and all that, even rhyming some words once in a while.
Then I just tried to come up with a new twist to the same chord progression I tend to use in about 80% of my songs but trying to keep if fairly simple so I wouldn’t trip up when recording it. Then came the cell phone recording in one take.
Once in a while it’s fun to do a song from recording to posting that’s self contained on a cell phone rather than going through the computer recording software route though that’s fun too.
I haven’t even listened to it yet.
The freedom began during the early days
disconnection from the given things
that tied you down like you had clipped wings
and you kept drifting, drifting along
wondering if you’d ever be able to put it into song
untethered
but also feeling weathered
by this unrelentless storm that never goes away
untethered
for worse or for better
finding a new form
to make it through these later days
the expanse of this new horizon line
deceives you in a rerouted way
more empty lanes make a wider freeway
and you kept driving, driving along
listening to millions of different songs
untethered
but also feeling weathered
by this unrelentless storm that never goes away
untethered
for worse or for better
finding a new form
to make it through these later days
the disconnection from all those given things
were like gifts wrapped with ribbons and bling
and they freed you from the way you used to sing
and you kept getting freer and freer
until the sun shone like a diamond ring
untethered
but also feeling weathered
by this unrelentless storm that never goes away
untethered
for worse or for better
finding a new form
to make it through these later days

Cool observation about the duality of the pandemic. "Untethered, but also feeling weathered" is a really good way of putting it. Your iPhone recording work really well. I'd never know that you didn't have a few decent mics hooked up. And that chord progression doesn't bring to mind any of your earlier songs, at least not to my ears. Nice job.

A Cool insightful lyric about dealing with the Pandemic.
The Untethered Chorus is very catchy.
The acoustic guitar sounds full and clean and matches your vocal very well. Nice Job.

Nice casual vibe, perfectly appropriate for a song about untethering and rerouting. The tiniest bit of fire might really suit the line "by this unrelentless storm that never goes away", but maybe that's just me. Nicely done.

Boy for a cell phone recording this sounds fantastic. I love the title and the theme is very relatable. "This unrelentless storm that never goes away" is a great metaphor for these past 2 years. really great work Joe.

Great song! It seems like you got tripped up on the syllables of the last verse. I'm not sure what I would change there though. I really like where you go there with "the sun shone like a diamond ring."
I think doing phone demos is smart. It's way easier to make changes when you haven't done a bunch of work tracking everything.
