I sometimes go for a swim in the local pool at lunchtime and when I do, the same guy usually arrives about midway through my swim and enters the lane beside me.
Whenever this happens something inside my brain tells me that this man has challenged me in some way and I spend the rest of the session making sure I don't lose pace with him. Silly I know.
I'm not sure if he feels the same (although I think he does).
It got me thinking of other types of masculine competitive pettiness between friends and family.
Why don’t you stay in your own lane?
We’re at the edge of pride and the fear of shame
How can I be so insecure
That I can’t get my mind off yours?
And it will always be the duel
it will always be the duel
Remember me mate? Yeah it’s been a while
A little more than friendship
But a little less than kind
I’ll make sure that you take heed
At every milestone you will seethe
And it will always be the duel
it will always be the duel
Hero worship from a younger age
In its place burns respect and rage
Now we don’t talk the same no more
But my voice is the same as yours
And it will always be the duel
it will always be the duel

You should doggy paddle and see if he does the same. If so then yeah....he's competing. If not then you just made yourself look silly (not my problem). Nice tune and original lyrics!

“I can’t get my mind off yours” -
The gorgeous piano melodies are coming thick and fast. Keep going you have a proper album cooking.

I think I have probably experienced similar. This is a unusual idea for a lyric and Iike it very much. We men are strange creatures indeed!

haha this is so relatable I used to get this seeing the same guy on treadmill next to me at the gym and I couldn't stop looking at what he was doing, so annoying. enjoyed the song.
