Feb 2022 small-town-horror electronica synth dark
So I've been a huge fan of the Silent Hill games for years, especially Silent Hill 2, and I'm really interested in the "peculiar little town" trope, places that are one or two, (or several hundred) steps from normal.
There's a lot more I'd like to do with this, edit it down slightly, get some more meaty distortion in as it builds, but I'm in danger of becoming obsessed with it and I need to move on!
Just a traveller, a stranger in a strange land
You run out of gas on the edge of town
Everyone's kind, nobody minds lending a helping land
But you better leave before the sun goes down
CHORUS:
The sirens call, the ashes fall
In this peculiar little town
The fog descends, sanity ends
In this peculiar little town
The sirens call, the ashes fall
In this peculiar little town
The fog descends, sanity ends
In this peculiar little town
Just a traveller, a soul who took the wrong road
Surrounded by eyes and sharpened smiles
Everything's fine, they invite you to dine with them before you go
"You don't need to leave yet, why not stay a while?"
The sirens call, the ashes fall
In this peculiar little town
The fog descends, sanity ends
In this peculiar little town
The sirens call, the ashes fall
In this peculiar little town
The fog descends, sanity ends
In this peculiar little town
Just a traveller, a stranger passing by
You ran out of gas on the edge of town
Everyone's kind, nobody minds helping you die
You didn't leave before the sun went down
The sirens call, the ashes fall
In this peculiar little town
The fog descends, sanity ends
In this peculiar little town
The sirens call, the ashes fall
In this peculiar little town
The fog descends, sanity ends
In this peculiar little town
The sirens call, the ashes fall
In this peculiar little town
The fog descends, sanity ends
In this peculiar little town
The sirens call, the ashes fall
In this peculiar little town
The fog descends, sanity ends
In this peculiar little town

#tit4tat The chorus is soo hooky too!

Atmosphere builds so well on this one. Really interesting textures created. Really great harmonies in the chorus. Like the slight distortion on your vocal in the verses. This is really cool!

You got that horror thing right, there's tension and build. The generic car break down, the anxiety of being out of place.
That's a lovely chorus too. It just warns. The mix/arrangement is rich and interesting. Well done.
#tit4tat I'm going to enjoy hearing more from you. Thanks for joining in. :)

This song has a lot of tension. I especially liked these distorted noises in the chorus. Just the right kind of disturbance these lyrics needs. I never played Silent Hill, but I tried Resident Evil (and failed...) so yes, you nailed that atmosphere. The chorus is damn catchy. #tit4tat

Vocals are really good. I love the chorus to this song, with a strong piano riff in the verses. Great song.

great beat and those wonderful lyrics brought to life by this great backing track Well done Cassie

So much going on in this! The textures you create with the layered vocals, the distorted drums (or affected white noise, not sure...) that relentless pulse bass, repeating piano riff and strange SFX in the chorus, defo best listened to in stereo! Great song!

This is splendid stuff. That repeated "Everyone's kind, nobody minds" line is a terrffic hook and gloriously sinister in context. Loving the harmony vocals and the electro beat is the perfect backing.
I will never forget the day I discovered that the Silent Hill games were based on a real place in America (Centralia, Pennsylvania, if you're wondering) where the ground is literally *on fire* and that isn't just peculiar, it's mind-bogglingly dystopian.

Digging the driving drum beat and keys combo, feel like I could listen to just that part for hours. Your voice sounds like early Madonna :-)
@stephubik Feb 2022
Love the noises and little bits of distortion (especially the stuff beginning at 2:30!) that makes it feel like the whole thing could explode anytime. The a-capella ending is GREAT in big letters.
Yeah, and I know how it feels becoming obsessed with production stuff. Spent almost four days prodding and polishing my last track; that way I'll never reach 14 ;)
@bradbrubaker Feb 2022
The piano rhythm has a slight Latin feel to it, like a tango to hell. Eerie how you never describe precisely what happens in the town, leaving it to imagination.

Silent hills and creepy movies/games fan here :) I especially like the chorus with the reverb vocals. You captured the mood really well. I like that the melody isn’t creepy. You get the feeling that everything is fine, but when you listen to the lyrics you get the feeling that something is off. Like the traveller in your song. Love it!

Just noticed that this was a prompt today on the FAWM twitter site.

Whether you knew it or not, you really aced this one!

Oooooo creeeeeepy!! I'll definitely be avoiding that little town. You've set the mood really well, and the the repetition really works in the chorus. Your vocals are spot on, and I love the ending harmonies!!! This is great!

Great vocals on this. The harmonies on the chorus are a great call. I like the static too, like trying to get a walkie talkie signal back to the real world.
I just finished Resident Evil, waiting for Silent Hill to come to Switch cause it looks pretty great. Love the atmospherics in those types of games.
