Feb 2022 acoustic-one-take folk filk comedy board-games
Being avid board gamers, we run into a certain problem a lot - shelf space. (If you ever watch any of the Jen Talks Games board game videos we make, you'll know one of the criteria we talk about is portability/box space)
There are some games that come with a very small amount of components, but they put them in a massive box so that it takes up more space on the shelf. In theory this is, I think, to give you that perceived sense of value - I.E bigger box is worth more money or something... but I'm fine with game having less components, as long as it's fun. Having to find shelf space - less fun. #BoardGamerProblems
This was the first thing to pop out on a new guitar I picked up since both my main gigging guitars are out of commission. Behold the danger of a guitar repair shop also being a retailer of guitars. :)
I probably spent more time messing with reverb on this than recording. :)
Acoustic one take. Capo +3
I head down to my friendly game store
Looking for just one more
Game to love that I’ve
Never played before
I find a coop looking cool
With sweet ideas and friendly rules
And I can barely conceal all
My gaming drool
I get it home
Punch the bits
Then I put it away
To see how it sits
Why’s there so much space
Why’s there so much space
You could fit all the bits
Into a box the quarter size of it
Why’s there so much space
Why’s there so much space
I love my brand new game a lot
It’s got cool mechanics that hit the spot
I just wish that it would fit
In a different slot
My gaming cabinets out of room
And so this might spell the doom
Of a game that we
Cannot play on Zoom
Yeah there’s a spacer
That’s a waste of space
It might disappear
Without a trace
Why’s there so much space
Why’s there so much space
You could fit all the bits
Into a box the quarter size of it
Why’s there so much space
Why’s there so much space
We only have so much time to play
And it takes time to put everything away
It might be easier to dump in the bits
But now we need to figure out where it fits
Why’s there so much space
Why’s there so much space
You could fit all the bits
Into a box the quarter size of it
Why’s there so much space
Why’s there so much space

I echo the sentiments on the reverb. And have so been there.
@stevonnie Feb 2022
Excellent use of reverb! I feel like this could be the Cheapass Games theme song. :-)
@tawny249 Feb 2022
Welp, this sounds like a real-life problem. XD Enjoying that reverb, and I love that you took the tune in a somewhat jazzy direction, that's kinda different for you! It worked really well. Neat structure, too.

So much fun, so recognizable. Turning a pet peeve into a song is the best remedy!
Great listen. Thanks for sharing this one.

This is great! The reverb is a really fun touch. Wish I could spend some time playing board games with you guys.

The huge package with lots of air inside actually bothers me more with pills (you just use those up). A really good game I can hope will get an expansion that I can slide inside the original box.
Fun song!

Nice reverb in service of the chorus lyrics!
Ooh, the characteristic spoken asides. :-)
And yes, I can definitely relate to that space issue. Plus I've been playing on Zoom for the last two years.
Gotta love "gaming drool".
Fun and catchy and well put together!

This is a legitimate gripe. I feel your rage. Just listening to it, I'm starting to get a little upset myself. I hope someday you find the answer to this musical question of "why's there so much space." In the meantime, maybe do what I do, slice up the box with a razor, cut it down to a reasonable size, and tape it back together with some clear packaging tape. It works great!
@jdschramm Feb 2022
As a board gamer myself I understand the drooling over a new game and also appreciating when it has nice packaging :) Nice to hear from you again.
