This being my first Modular Synth piece ever made I will start with a brief introduction-
Modular Synthesis has always fascinated me. However the cost of physical hardware and the prospect of making music and not noise out of it have been 2 barriers to this rabbit hole.
I picked up a copy of the Vst version of Vcv Rack at the end of 2021 and figured I could use Fawm to hopefully learn more about this.
My plans for this Modular Impressions series are for each of these pieces to be no more than 3 minutes, all patches created from scratch, and just seeing where the sound takes me playing "live to tape" as Candle would say.
I'm not certain how many of these I will make, primarily just depends if I enjoy the process as I go, and if they are recieved well as they may well be rubbish as this is all new to me.
For this track I used just a few modules, but once I got the combo of bell like sounds at the start and added delay and distortion on top I just started to take it from there.
The title is inspired from a text message I typed that mentioned a Positivity Rate and my phone autocorrected to Rage instead. The title seems to fit this piece.

Oh wow!
Now I want to try modular synthesis!
I love the atmosphere that this invokes. And there's an engaging coherence to the chaos that really appeals to me. That and the fact that it reminds of my motorcycling days at times! ;-)

These things can go very wrong or very right very quickly - usually my experiments end up either in monotone fuzz or absolute silence. But it sure is fun to try hey?
OK, you've inspired me. I see your modular chaotic warblings and will try to raise with a healthy dose of lawful nonsense!

Fascinating piece, it sounds like fire, in a way. I doubt I'll ever be able to enter the realm of modular, but I like what people who are into it create. Do you enjoy the process? As you know, what is rubbish to some is gold to others. For my part, I think you did a great job here!

This is great! Like you, the cost involved has kept me away from this as I've known quite a few people who spend hundreds just to get one new little tweaked sound, and I've already got a pedal addiction that I try to keep under control :D
Some really great stuff in here. I do hope you continue on!

Very sonically experimental and creative. That noise generator is definitely working overtime! Crackles and buzzes.
@fuzzy Feb 2022
Yeah, you're right, good title here.
I'm liking the calmer sounds in my left ear contrasted with the crackling energy in my right ear.
A really great Experimental headphone track for sure.

Modular is pretty fun ( I don't have one but a friend of mine does) and from what I have learned once you get addicted to it, it gets expensive fast lol. And man they are so much fun to mess with. There are some really wild sounds in here.

There's something somewhat addicting to recording "live-to-tape", I find. You just lay down the track & don't get hung up on the details or any perceived mistakes. I've always seen it as capturing a moment in time. And it sounds like you did just that here. Like you, I've never really played around with modular synthesis (tho, I guess one could argue that playing around in Jeskola Buzz is playing around with Modular Synthesis in a way… but that's another topic). But it sounds like you've made a good start. I really like the sounds you've got here & how you've tweaked them with the delay & distortion. Great stuff! I'm looking forward to more of your Modular experiments.
See You In The Shadows…
