Feb 2022 acoustic bluegrass folk one-take guy-with-guitar country-folk country
A quick acoustic one-take with one microphone. I mostly just needed a good excuse to get to play some bluegrass.
Call Me a Liar – February 6, 2022
I promised myself, I wouldn't let them break my heart
And they could never make me cry
But here I am with tears running down my face
I guess you can call me a liar
You said that you would always love me
And I echoed in my reply
But I'm fairly certain that I never want to see you again
I guess that makes us both liars
CHORUS:
You called me your lover
And your sweet honey
Whispered sweet nothings through the night
But now that I mean
Nothing to you
Don't call me again, alright?
Sweethearts, you promised forever and a day
I was yours and you were mine
You said eternity wasn't nearly enough time
Of course I know now that was a lie
I promised myself, I wouldn't let you break my heart
And that you could never make me cry
But here I am with tears running down my face
I guess that makes me a liar

Love the riff and the sweet melody. Great chorus lyrics.

Is this new bluegrass? It is not how I thought bluegrass was more Deliverance. I guess I like bluegrass. I liked the speed,the guitar licks, your lyrics were nice, told a good story and were emoti9nal. All around, nice song, liked my listen.#tit4tat

Love that bluegrass sound and this is a great listen. Especially the “alright?” at the end of the chorus!

Oh wow that is some awesome guitar picking!! Love the vocals too - intimate, emotive and great dynamic rage - nice phrasing also. I am totally digging this tune. Heartbreaking and totally relatable lyrics. You are balanced really nicely for one mic. I also really enjoy hearing one take songs - wonderful authentic performance. #tit4tat

Wow -- love your strumming pattern here! I like the framing that has both parties as liars, though the narrator, of course, is the more sympathetic liar . . .
@ballyhoot Mar 2022
Your fingering is nice here, definitely got that bluegrass sound, rhythm, and tone. Your vocal delivery, with its emotional breaking, works very well for this piece. Really nice song. Thanks for sharing! #tit4tat

Oooh love a bit of bluegrass. Awesome picking patterns! Repetition is really effective. Great vocal too. Again your storytelling is on point. Love the variety of styles in your songs. One take! Impressive stuff. Love that last chord!

Great to hear you again, my friend - one of my all-time favorite FAWMers!
Now, that is some bluegrass guitar-pickin'! Indeed, a classic bluegrass sound, with lots of nifty twists. And some fine forlorn singing, too. Nice!

That is a heartbreaker and a half. What a fabulous song. The guitar and the vocal are so lovely. Thank you
@bradbrubaker Feb 2022
Nice track! Oof, that second stanza. Wish I could play something like this on one take!
@fuzzy Feb 2022
Oh my this is so lovely.
Great high lonesome vocal approach here.
Super nice guitar work.
Yeah, so overall great.

I like the repeated but varied liar at the end of each verse, and some amazing licks in there as well! Really interesting vocals - enjoyed!

Can only add my voice to what others have said, basically along the lines of DAMN that’s some tasty guitar work!! DV bluegrass is welcome in my ears any time :)
@nadine Feb 2022
This picking is insane and you still manage to sing. Mind blown! Clever lyrics as usual. And I didn't exoect you to yodel ^^
@emmasully19 Feb 2022
Love the guitar and bluegrass. My first song was a blues and today I was wishing I had some more twang. Let’s collaborate!
@sunnymae Feb 2022
Dayyam, can you play that guitar! This song is so cool. Super clever lyrics and your voice....is so special. It really is it's own instrument and you use it really well. A signature sound for sure. Glad you dropped by my page this evening, so I could get to know yours. :0)

Such nice guitar and cool vocals on this! I was sort of ready for you to start yodeling! Love the vibe of this.
