Feb 2022 randomcollab guy-with-guitar
metalfoot: Our names were drawn in Random Collab Round 1, and quork wrote some really interesting lyrics that drew me into this musical direction. A pleasure to write with you!
quork: metalfoot, the man who can turn a shopping list into poetry. Thank you for taking my words and turning them into such a powerful song.
We all have demons in our past. What do you do when confronted with them?
metalfoot: vocals, guitar
quork: lyrics
I’ll Stay
Yesterday you called to say
You’d learned the truth about me
It’s plain the past I’d tried so hard to leave behind
Had found me
The world turned gray closing in
I never thought you’d say
You’re a stranger to me now
It’s all been a lie
There’s a place
Nobody knows me there’s a place
I could leave it all behind
Pick up the pieces
Start again
Walk down the street
People laugh and stare
Act like I don’t see them
Like I don’t care
But this time
I’ve had enough of running
It’s time to come clean
This time
I’ll face the music face my sorry past
This time
I’ll make a stand try to make amends
This time I’ll learn to hold my head up high
This time
I’ll stay

This caught me off guard. I didn't see the collab. I wouldn't of expected this lyric from @metalfoot and sure wasn't expecting that instantly recognizable to me voice from @quork LOL.
What an amazing collab! These lyrics are super powerful (and very personally relatable) and you've more than done them justice with an outstanding 1v1 performance. It is a great write that I think could also be great with lots of bells and whistles, but might not ever be more impactful than this. Really well done both of you!

Really enjoyed the turn of phrase right in the first verse, with the past tried to leave behind had found me. Powerful lyric of facing down one's demons after years of running away, rejecting the sweet lure of leaving it al behind again.
Powerful vocal from Alex, and a really nice dark guitar tone with melancholic chords really capture the mood of the brooding and desire to run away, especially with the major turn in the chorus.
Great collab to both of you!

Ah guys this is beautiful. Its oh so powerful in such a minimalist way and the story is definitely one that i can link with and even though i don't know the names of that C based chord in the verse its a winner with me. And the almost joyous build of the chorus is brilliantly done.
@audrey Feb 2022
Wow! This is great! I love how it builds in the last verse. Great lyrics of a person troubled by his past but finding the strength to finally deal with it. Great story telling here and a sad and intense melody fitting the lyrics perfectly. Wonderful collaboration guys.
@splittybooms Feb 2022
I'll admit I thought this would be a duet with you two!
What I got was a great song on all fronts.
Haunting and sad lyrics that turn into that kind of sad hopefulness you have when the situation is still making your heart heavy but you're trying to look up anyway. Hopeful redemption from the past mistakes. Great writing from quork.
And great vocals by metalfoot - your singing was described perfectly in the liner notes! I wholeheartedly agree with quork's statement lol
But putting that voice with these lyrics and the sad guitar works so well; can feel the regret, shame, guilt, pain, and that sad hopeful look to the uncertain future.
Great stuff, you two
@amelea Feb 2022
Oooh 2 people on my watchlist collabing. You both did a great job conveying a heartwrenching feeling (and I'm super stressed out about homework right now so these vibes are hitting me raw). Really like this :)
@gm7 Feb 2022
You guys have teamed up-random challenge- for a great song...Great story and the guitar and voice are a great fit for this story. Well done
@kahlo2013 Feb 2022
This is really beautiful! The lyrics are really well crafted as they are sad but create a sense of hope for the future. And the melody and vocals are gorgeous. Love the collaboration!
@liz561 Feb 2022
ooh- the story is all of the things the lyric leaves unsaid. I need to see the file!!
@jerrypettit Feb 2022
Funny how these "random" collaborations are so "consistently" good--this one being no exception.
Great vocal on these fine lyrics--very nice collaboration, guys!
@emkaydeebee Feb 2022
I just closed my eyes and let this wash over me - it's beautiful, and delivered so well.
@mandolinda Feb 2022
Very powerful storyline. Well executed in song.
@thedutchwidows Feb 2022
This is really nicely done. Great lyrics and delivered beautifully. There's so much soul in that voice. This has a classic lighters in the air, all the crowd swaying along vibe. I can envisage a full band kicking in about 1/2 way through and the room erupting. Great collaboration!
@nadine Feb 2022
Great collab! It's fresh to hear Alex with a different lyricist and he nailed it so well. If I had these lyrics I'd also have a song in mind. That's talent!
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
I didnt see it was a collab and then i though thats not an Alex lyric, mystery solves pity i didnt use my eyes. Good lyric indeed economical and to the point! Alex as always gives it a lift. Nice one
