My first FAWM submission. It was a quick write. It's certainly not a finished product, but I'm happy to be exercising the muscle.
George was born at the turn of the century
song of a MidWest drunk pushing ketamine
armed with just his wits and a silver tongue
He grew up to become a televangelist
getting high off deadbeats and cannabis
all it cost was the breath from his velvet lung
He says it's a big mistake,
but the man is on the make
crawl into his arms
It should come as no surprise
there's gaslight in his eyes
meant to do you harm
Suckers file into the auditorium
all his flock engulfed in the story of
providence and psalms getting sung
Now you're a victim of his ammunition
The well-worn, well dressed family tradition
of cutting crooked teeth on a silver tongue
You may say it's a big mistake
But the man is on the make
Crawl into his arms
It should come as no surprise
There's gaslight in his eyes
meant to do you harm
You may say it's a big mistake
But man you're on the make
When they crawl into your arms
It come's as no surprise
There's gaslight in your eyes
meant to do me harm
George was born at the turn of the century
Now he's selling faith as a remedy
Armed with just his wits and a silver tongue
