On Sunday, I drove out to a park with a plan to go for a little hike because I was feeling burnt out and overwhelmed, but the Wisconsin weather was too cold for how I was dressed, so I wound up sitting in the back of my Corolla and writing this song. Ironically, the times when I feel like I'm trying to do too much and need a break still tend to benefit from me creating something since it lets me get my feelings out.
This turned out feeling almost a little country and the vibe plus the title reminded me of the band Big Star, which I'm not super familiar with (but listening to their #1 Record album the last couple days). However, I did know their song "Thirteen" since Elliott Smith's cover of it is a really beautiful song I've always loved.
After listening to and learning how to play Thirteen, I was inspired to then write my other recently uploaded song (When Summer Comes Home). Tonight I'm gonna play this song and those two other songs at the open mic I go to since this song reminded me of Thirteen and Thirteen inspired When Summer Comes Home!
I'm always on the move, my friend
And yes, I know I should rest, but can't
Man, I've been so afraid of the end
Three years now, and countin'
God, I can't even sleep past eight
Not when there's so much left to do
Not when there's so much life in wait
Dancin' down the avenue
So, maybe I'm not your shining star
Maybe I'm just a boy
Who doesn't know left from right from wrong
And just wants somethin' to hold
I'm always on the move, my love
No, I don't know where I'm headed to
But I hope that if I ever stop
I'll turn around and find you
Maybe I'm not your shining star
Maybe I'm just a boy
Who doesn't know left from right from wrong
And just wants somethin' to hold
Yeah, maybe I'm not your shining star
Baby, I'm just a boy
Who doesn't know left from right from wrong
But maybe we could grow old

Haha I also heard Mazzy Star in the beginning! The way you sing this song starts to veer into Bob-Dylan-esque talk-singing quality (like in Don't Think Twice) that might be cool for you to lean into, it suits your voice and is pretty distinctive. "Who doesn't know left from right from wrong" -great line!

THat's so funny about Mazzy Star, no wonder I loved your song so much! it really doesn't sound exactly the same tho, its just set of reminiscent in a good way. So good... I think its something about your tone that reminds me of Tom Petty. Its a voice where I could listen to a whole album on repeat. Looking forward to hearing more from you :)

I love your voice and really enjoyed the guitar on this so so much. It reminded me of mazzy star a little bit plus Tom Petty, two of my favorite things in the world… really good. Poignant lyrics. I just want something to feel whole felt very personal and introspective.

Aw, I love that croon! When you go for a big swoop and hit it esp like the beginning it's a really neat drawLike the idea of life personified and dancing as well.Sweet.

Very interesting sound. Vocals are almost Dylan like. I like the guitar because it's more interesting than a lot of folk songs, but not too weird or left field (I don't usually like those kinds of progressions). Actually the lyrics are kind of Dylan-like too, but with your own writing style.
