For FAWN, and often just to spur creativity, I ask a friend to send me a word and I write a song around that. My friend sent me the word "plain" three days ago. This is the result.
I change tempo a frickin' lot, from verse to chorus, and then even change chorus tempo in the last chorus. Does it work? I don't know. I felt it, so I did it.
Plain and Simple
I want plain old butter on my bread
And I hear simple folksongs inside my head
It’s not so complicated
If you read between the lines
If you want to take a chance with me
Just do instead of try
Chorus:
Take me plain
And take me simple
The sunshine and the rain
I’ll give you nothing but the truth
And that’s a lot to entertain
I don’t play games
I’m not that nimble
But I’m not afraid of pain
When I love I love forever
That’s my package
plain and simple
I look at the mountains and I cry
How can I not be glad to be alive
This modest life I lead
Might not be much
But it is mine
Don’t venture in unless you see
The passion in my eyes
Chorus
I’m right here

Love your vocal delivery! Just oozing with dramatic emotion. Really dig the rhythm of the vocals in the chorus - it's cool how another voice switches off halfway through.
