Lyrics by @arthurrossi
Venetian melancholy
It was like a tale,
magic and untold,
it was before we failed,
it must´ve been love in Venice in the fall…
Dreaming at the Channel, looking at the moon,
listening to the waves of the big lagoon,
giving torrid kisses, playing “do you dare?”
hunting pigeons at the St. Mark’s Square…
(Chorus)
We were young, we were young, we were free,
two lovers - different destinies…
but I still imagine, imagine, after all,
to sit with you in the Caffe Florian
in Venice in the fall…
It was like a tale,
new and somehow old…
and our dreams, they sailed
though clouds of mist in Venice in the fall…
One life, two lovers, the Adriatic Sea,
all´s now a sweet and bitter memory…
the story of a man and a sweet young lass –
two broken hearts of Murano glass….
(Chorus)
We were young, we were young, we were free,
two lovers - different destinies…
but I still imagine, imagine, after all,
to sit with you in the Caffe Florian
in Venice in the fall…
(Bridge)
There were storms, took us apart,
two gondolas on an angry sea,
they can break this lonely heart,
but not the memories…
(Chorus)
We were young, we were young, we were free,
two lovers - different destinies…
but I still imagine, imagine, after all,
to sit with you in the Caffe Florian
in Venice in the fall…

The rule of thumb says don't play the melody line with an instrument in addition to a vocalist doing the same.
I say there is one exception: the mandolin in an Italian context.

This song has a great old-time feel, like the theme song from an early 60s movie.

This is beautiful. It oozes personality from the get-go.
Very melancholic, but that's what I like most about it.
Really top-notch stuff here, well done.
