Feb 2022 mandolin old-time proleteriat country skirmish s020922
Don't we all get sick of politicians who say they are for the ordinary guy and then when they get into power just feather their own nests? Well, my narrator is heartily sick of them and suggests we stop cooperating and tell them what they can do with their false promises.
(G) Why do you promise to give with your left hand
When you (C) know the right will soon take it (G) back?
Do you think we are fools who will follow a script
To (D) which you provide the sound(G)track
Take it a(C)way - Take it a(G)way
Whatever your (D) bribe is this time
We won't meet you half (G) way
We know that your (C) promises
Are so often (G) fake
We don't want a (D) slice of the pie
We want the whole (G) cake
You come round to see us and offer us dreams
But we know in our hearts you don't care
You've a pension for life to look forward to
While making ends meet is our nightmare
CHORUS
After the polls close and your party's won
You'll forget that you made us a pledge
The goals that you offered will not be achieved
While your bonds will, of course, be gilt-edged
CHORUS

Great modern protest song! We need more of these! Super Mando, too!

Oh, that mandolin... that is amazing... as is the song itself... A very catchy tune, with powerful and that relatable lyrics, performed in such an enjoyable way... I guess the politicians, at least the majority of them, are very similar, regardless in which part of the world they may live... Also here in Austria... You may have heard about the recent corruption scandals concerning the former chancellor Sebastian Kurz and Thomas Schmid... While they scold each other millions of Euros, the salary of the average Austrian citizen was increased for not even 3% this year (which, ironically, they try to sell as a "big success"!), the current inflation rate being way higher than that...

good stuff
@chipwithrow Feb 2022
I love that ringing mandolin sound, and such a grand protest sing-along! Sharp rhyming in the lyrics, too.
@gregwere Feb 2022
great humorous coverage the truth of our political systems - singalong folk festival style tune.
@thedutchwidows Feb 2022
Lovely song. The mandolin sounds terrific and you deliver the well-crafted lyrics really well. Don’t they say that those that seek political power are the least suitable to have it? Excellent work to call it out! I also love the ‘old-time proletariat’ tag!
@whispermouse Feb 2022
Nice mandolin skirmish! The melody has a timeless quality that suits a protest song.
@jwhanberry Feb 2022
At a time when no one can agree on anything, I think you've hit the nail on the head with this one. Well done.
@keithcuts Feb 2022
oh a mandoriffic rally song. I could see you being very effective in the music rally space as you swinging melody here is very catchy. you words inspire action and sway thought
@sheilerk Feb 2022
This seems to be the case for all of the politicians on both sides of the aisle and both sides of the pond! It could be a universal theme song! You've completely nailed it in every way. And that mandolin is awesome!
@jtsteam Feb 2022
I can't resist the sound of a mandolin, it's wonderful. Classic protest song here, and I can't argue with the sentiment.
@misterdemp Feb 2022
Really cool interpretation of the prompt. Enjoyable simple folk sound and political commentary.
@prsongsmith Feb 2022
The world needs more songs like this - so we’ll done (and the recording sounds great too!). I was just playing along on my upright bass - this could be fun live with a whole band (if that’s ever a thing again…)
@cindyrella Feb 2022
Spot on and what a great listen!
@tunecat Feb 2022
Yes could t agree more. Always impressed by your songs and this no different
@billwhite51 Feb 2022
feels like we are skating around the pond, playing it cool before we strike.
@nancycunning Feb 2022
Wow. That's great. I love the mandolin and the lyric already feels polished. Like a Woody Guthrie song from the '30s. Great work
@hmstreetteam Feb 2022
A nicely done addition to the political folk tune tradition. The sentiments would fit in almost any time and place, it seems. Good, well-balanced sound and smooth singing!
@liz561 Feb 2022
The major key and the jingle of the mandolin belies the seriousness of the lyrics. I cannot believe you did this in an hour-nice job.
