thought i had a pretty good thing going
i was happy with my life as it was
but theres a buzz in the back of my brain that said
cousin are you sure that all of this is enough?
i fell for the bluff and started looking around and found
i was surrounded by people with more
need to even the score, i was fiending galore
and while waging this war my whole attitude fell to the floor
comparison's the thief of joy ya
comparisons the thief of joy
theres nothing to gain by looking
for lawns that are greener when that
seeking only serves to destroy

seeking only serves to destroy
social medie ubiquity leads to trickling
pictures of inequity
its best to leave that ad serving phone
put away if your goal is to be happy today

The vocals' verb in the chorus is a great touch in the song. The title is a hooky thought, makes me want to not forget the line. Great flow in all respects.

I like the folksy charm of the strumming and choruses, and the kind-of-almost-semi spoken-rap feel of the vocal delivery of the verses. The message is worthwhile, and the delivery throughly entertaining!
@vegansongs Feb 2022
I really like your production- simple but then complex with that echo chamber sound in the chorus.. Punches the point!

Which poet said: "To compare is to betray"? This is definitely in that territory. I am really getting into these acoustic raps of yours. We need more acoustic rap. I just can't get into the bass & drum machine backed ones. Unbelievably good internal rhymes for a skirmish. Take a bow, sir!
@wylddandelyon Feb 2022
I enjoyed all the internal rhymes. One of the things I learned as a kid is that often while you are looking over the fence, so to speak, and envying your neighbor, your neighbor may be looking over the fence and envying you. So I'm not sure I agree about what the thief of joy is, but even so, it works so well as the hook for this song!

That is a lot of words to pull together in an hour, and they work so well. That is exceptional work! Your delivery is lovely and the understated musical accompaniment really lets the words breathe. This is excellent work.

Man, that’s great. The words flow really nicely. The rhyme scheme was incredible. I really like the reverb add on the chorus. Good message, we’ll done
@misterdemp Feb 2022
Love the half sung/spoken word delivery, really effective and interesting vocal tone.

As the saying goes "The other guy's teddy bear always looks fuzzier!" You make the point well. I like the subtle touch of cranking the vocal's reverb on the chorus. Makes it just a little bigger.

That song contains practically all of Buddhism one must know, no? I totally like your voice and the slender style of your song.

Hey, Keith - I love the waterfall of rhymes, and the way the rhythm dances around, it feels like that rhythm is the joy that's being stolen by staring at the phone.
Your image of the ad's being served up to you, made me think that your chorus line "seeking only serves to destroy" could even be "seeking only seeks to destroy" - that the whole purpose of searching is to destroy your equanimity so you buy more stuff...
It could be fun to use Cuz for Cousin. That's what my cousin calls me. So cool to have a rhyme for Buzz, and fun to hang out there and buzz those z sounds.
Great work!
@kevinmason Feb 2022
Oh yeah, great hip-hop style internal rhyming. I love that stuff. Sweet, simple message but a deep truth.
@hmstreetteam Feb 2022
I love the jazzy flow. Some killer rhymes.
