I wrote this song on my phone on a forest trail.
I've been facing a situation that has forced me to hold on to my innocence. As someone raised with the Augustine slop of original sin drummed into her brain, this has not been easy.
But I've been finding it when I go to the forest.
Musically, this is in the very early stages. There are many things I would like to fix about this demo, but they will have to wait for now.
Give me wisdom
Give me sight
Give me knowledge
Give me might
Beyond my wildest dreams
Isn't that what I should ask for?
Give me patience,
Give me truth,
Give me solace,
Give me youth
To last forever
Isn't that what I should ask for.
But Mother Earth in silence
So resounding that I shudder
Answers no,
And so,
She gives
Initiation into innocence,
Initiation into innocence.
Give me talent
Give me wealth
Give me friendships
Give me help
When I can think to reach out
I know that's not what I should ask.
Give me silence
Give me growth,
Give me eyes to see where childlike eyes still glow
And tell her so she knows...
And so
(She gives)
Initiation into innocence
Initiation into innocence
Initiation into innocence
Into innocence
Into the innocence of me

What a thoughtful and thought-provoking song. Not surprised it was gifted to you by the forest, which counted on your musical talent to make it beautiful.

I like this tender, contemplative piano tune in combination with these lovely words. It sounds slightly mysterious with the touch of a prayer. Wonderful vocal delivery as well!

I like where this is going. Love the piano riff, and the notion of finding innocence - it's something I've spent some time thinking on recently as well! Great start!

This has such a nice meditative feel. I like the way the earnest prayer turns a little with the "Isn't that what I should ask for
Initiation into Innocence is a really interesting idea. Something to find, instead of something to lose. I like that.
