Tough challenge, one-note melody. I failed, but here’s what I got. Sort of a spoken word poem/song.
Berries & Thistles
As dawn rolls onto the side
of this hill like your torso under sheets,
44 silent birds peck
before the arrival of the deer;
dogs are sleeping,
I need nothing but coffee and this window.
This window…
Thistles flourish where the ground was torn,
Scars and scars and scars and scars
and they say the birds are the great
Reapers and sowers—- peckers and shitters of both
berry and thistle
berry and thistle
berry and thistle
We cannot be all virgin skin,
we need scars for the rooting of story.
We need the sleeping dogs
and wary deer, or our lives may spook
and flutter
Spook and flutter
before us.
(Instrumental)
I need this smooth stretch of your arm
unearthed, to cradle what is sleeping,
lips to the ground, lips to the ground
berries & thistles
berries & thistles
berries & thistles

Yes @dancrook I’m recording all of mine via camera mic… if/when I take them to the studio, I get serious with the mics and mix. Thanks for the feedback. This challenge feels odd… but it’s forcing me to go to new places, so I don’t mind the oddness.
