Well fellow FAWMer's here is act 1 scene 1 of my offering for 2022 I would be happy for someone to run with this musically if they have the urge :-)
Hannah took this on and sprinkled her magic on it.
From Hannah: So grateful to Geoff for letting me take on this lovely lyric! It feels classic and timeless, so setting it to a jazz-esque "standard" feel and chord progression just felt right to me. This could be arranged various ways, but for my part, I am hearing a horn section, or at least a trumpet doing a solo in that instrumental third verse. So fun, thanks again Geoff!
ROSY IS MY VIEW (WHEN I’M WITH YOU)
VERSE
When you come home in the evening
With your feet all tired and sore
My shoulder’s there to cry on
You are the one that I adore
PRE-CHORUS
Then you still ask,
Are we OK
And I say
CHORUS
We’ve got a copper bottomed
Solid gold and silver lined affair.
You don’t need to worry baby
I ain’t going anywhere.
You’ve got me to lean on
And I know that I’ve got you
So rosy is my view
When I’m with you.
VERSE
You don’t need to have a complex
You don’t need to feel so blue
I’ve told you that I need you
A hundred, thousand times it’s true.
PRE-CHORUS
But you still ask,
Are we OK
And I say
CHORUS
We’ve got a copper bottomed
Solid gold and silver lined affair.
You don’t need to worry baby
I ain’t going anywhere.
You’ve got me to lean on
And I know that I’ve got you
So rosy is my view
When I’m with you.
MIDDLE
Don’t you ponder
No don’t be scared
Cos I won’t do things
Unawares
You got your armour
I know all that
But I’m your peace now
There’s no attack
Your scars may linger
From wars before
They don’t mean nada
Not anymore.
PRE-CHORUS
You can still ask,
Are we OK
And I’ll say
CHORUS
We’ve got a copper bottomed
Solid gold and silver lined affair.
You don’t need to worry baby
I ain’t going anywhere.
You’ve got me to lean on
And I know that I’ve got you
So rosy is my view
When I’m with you.
So rosy is my view
When I’m with you…….

Such a classy lyric performed in such a classy way. The simple production is all this needs. The words are so well communicated with emotion, inflection and superb melody. The piano accompaniment is perfect too. Pure class…
@oswlek Mar 2022
This is just stunningly good. I hope you don't arrange it any further because voice and piano is perfect. Beyond perfect, if there is a word for that. This would be all over the radio if it came out in the 50s, kids might still be playing it today. Slick wordplay, fun piano and hooks galore in the melody.
And I must ask again, Hannah, what are you doing here?
@jonmeta Mar 2022
Before hiphop there were the Pointer Sisters and others who specialised in rapid fire rhythmic word play, and boy, you two have done a magnificent job with that style here. The way “got a copper bottomed solid gold…” rolls so easily is wonderful. Hannah, you have found “the music in the words” and brought it out beautifully, and that’s the secret and essence of a good song.
@andrea Feb 2022
Wow, this is excellent. The melodies and music are so darn catchy. I could hear this in a Broadway show. Sweet loving lyrics beautifully performed. Bravo!
@majordanby Feb 2022
This is a great collab. The pre-chorus and chorus are so good. I love it when lyrics flow like that, which is particularly difficult when the lyrics aren’t your own.
Fantastic piano playing as always. .
@crisp1 Feb 2022
I love that breathless chorus! Geoff, you've just been knocking out one great lyric after the other this FAWM and this collaboration is another fantastic one. You can't say you don't do love songs anymore! Hannah has just worked wonders musically and vocally. Such an amazing number!
@mandolinda Feb 2022
Just working through the added a demo posts. Sometimes they get lost in the fray and not too many hear them. But what a shame, this song is so delightful. Just love it.
@cleanshoes Feb 2022
The jazz pop approach is just perfect for these lyrics. So charming and sing along-able! Fantastic piano, and your vocals are so clear and warm. I really loved this one.
@jorh Feb 2022
Absolutely love this jazzy number! The beautiful melodies soaring above the bouncy piano works a treat. Both the setting and the lyric feels timeless - really enjoy the uses of the three metals at the start of the chorus to signal a strong relationship
@kadmad202 Feb 2022
This is absolutely delightful! The melody, the lyrics, the arrangement, and the delivery all meld together perfectly to create something wonderful! It’s a song all of us can relate to, tap our toes to, and play so many times that, before you know it, we’ll all be singing along!
@dasbinky Feb 2022
This feels like something from the soundtrack to a rom com. Which... I live and die for romantic comedies. I love this.
That chorus melody line is making my head explode. Oh my is this lovely. This is one of my favorite listens this year. Blown away.
@geoff61 Feb 2022
Thanks all, yes @davidtaro I am working on my lighter side, it is much more reluctant to come out than the darker side :-)
@davidtaro Feb 2022
Oh goodness, I absolutely love this. That jaunty chord progression is awesome. Particularly the last chord of the verse, which is gorgeous in that context. The way you kind of machine gun deliver the chorus is so effective, such a great contrast to the verse melody. And then the jazzy playing at the end - fabulous. Geoff, I really enjoyed these lyrics. Echo @jkepler re the metal imagery. I love how you work these central thematic threads through your songs, it's just trademark Geoff! I might be misreading, but this one seems somewhat lighter than normal? Really enjoyed listening. Thanks both!
@jkepler Feb 2022
Great collaboration! First song I listened to this morning---three times--- while making coffee.
@hbusse, your piano playing had me from the first chords, with the descending baseline, and great singing. I particularly enjoyed the higher register chords just after the middle, into the final chorus, and the drawn-out ending.
@geoff61, your lyrics really grabbed me with your use of metallic imagery - what a beautiful evocation of relational solidity, resilience, and beauty. I particularly enjoyed "You got your armour / I know all that / But I’m your peace now / There’s no attack".
@ohljazz Feb 2022
Charming song - Great construction on the middle section - the melody went right where I hoped it would go. The chorus sounds great, but it's a lot of words with not much space to breathe. Well done getting through that!
@bradbrubaker Feb 2022
Great jazzy vocal delivery, especially on the chorus.
Favorite lyric:
Your scars may linger
From wars before
They don’t mean nada
Not anymore.
@n24 Feb 2022
I love the piano and the descending baseline, really melodically pleasing! That chorus has such a great rhythm and bounce to it. Such sweet lyrics and delivered so exquisitely, your vocals are really smooth and suit the track so well, really excellent work guys!
@jerrypettit Feb 2022
Very nice lyrics and a very nice piano background.
GREAT vocal although (constructive criticism) it is mixed pretty low in the first part of the song--where it needs to be soon after though.
Really a lovely tune--very nice collaboration, you guys!
@engebretsen Feb 2022
This is great. I love you`re voice here.
@sarahk Feb 2022
Had to let out an impressed expletive at the end of that first chorus. @geoff61 your lyrics are so sweet, music is a perfect partner to it. And @hbusse you always nail your performance. So glad I clicked on this one!
@katestantonsings Feb 2022
Hannah did sprinkle magic on these, Geoff! A beautiful collab! What an ethereal vocal and arrangement to such rosy words :)
@nadine Feb 2022
The phrasing of the vocal melody is insane and well delivered. I lift my hat!
@evinwolverton Feb 2022
Holy hell, that vocal melody is especially nuanced and well matched to the lyric. Such range, with color in the right places. One of my favorite vocalists of this community.
@jramonewi Feb 2022
So very good! I've missed hearing songs from my FAWM "watchlist" these past years. I forgot why they're so amazing. Excellent job, friend!
@dancrook Feb 2022
this is great! love the melody. Could imagine this in a musical or a movie. lovely warm velvet vocal and that chorus run of words is super catchy and clever. This is one of my favorites this FAWM. Thanks for sharing
