Feb 2022 folk mandolin accordion spoken
A few words spoken to a backdrop of mandolin and melodeon (diatonic accordion) with some low whistle thrown in for good measure.
Ships in the harbour
A broken lover in the rain
Every promise was in vain
Fending off shadows
From half remembered nights
Misty morning dim the lights
Salt on the wind
No milk or sugar in my tea
A hundred sailors lost at sea

Those big sighing breaths from the melodeon are so evocative. A short story in nine lines. I like it very much.

Beautiful vibe to this - and the instrumentation and production is gorgeous (something I constantly struggle with!)

perfect choice of instrumentation for this! Different vocal style makes it very powerful, really different, really nice

Wow, when that flute comes in, it's genuinely breathtaking. Magical. Love the poetry of those lyrics too, which would work fine as standalone verse. I agree totally with @pumpkinhead 's 'musical picture painted' comment.

To me the mandolin was the promise and the accordion the broken promise... and then came the flute with the wind. A musical picture painted in my head via my ears. Nice.

The combination of melodeon and mandolin (mand-elodeon?) creates such a nice seaside harbor village vibe. The flute is a nice touch as well. I like the sparse lyrics, inviting the listener to fill in the narrative gaps. It becomes quite a story in my mind. Nice work!
