Feb 2022 comedy winter in chicago
So as the song says, the lakefront gets really weird this time of year with how the snow stacks and my friends and I refer to it as "adventure beach" and we have a Sunday ritual of going on a beach walk together and exploring. I actually came up with the idea for this song on a beach walk this weekend and we were brainstorming ideas while walking around.
This song features an attempt at a tap solo made from samples of my friend stepping on ice. It's not the best attempt and that's a whole problem to solve on how to make a tap dance solo out of stepping on ice (cuz you don't actually tap dance at adventure beach).
When winter hits chicago
And the snow stacks high
Grab your friends and go to the lake
There are giant mounds of snow and ice
It’s scary but also kinda great
The sight of it is wild
It’s ice on snow on water on sand
If you’re not careful
You could die or float of to Michigan
Adventure beach
This is like another planet!
Adventure beach
There’s an ice cave over here!
Adventure beach
I think I”m stuck in quicksand?
Nothing goes as planned at adventure beach
Adventure beach
I guess I live on this hill now
Adventure beach
Just slide down on your butt
Adventure beach
Pick up a giant chunk of ice and throw it at the ground because you can
The boardwalk is covered in ice
The water is full of snow
But in February in chicago
This is the coolest place to go
(ice breaking tap solo)
That was just samples cuz you don't actually tap dance at adventure beach
Adventure beach
It’s really cold
Adventure beach
I can’t feel my feet
Adventure beach
It’s time to go home
You survived another day at adventure beach

I love the goofy sense of humour on display in this song. And yeah, as one who grew up on the Canadian side of the Great Lakes, you learn respect for the lakes in winter. (Which is worse, by the way; dying or floating off to Michigan?)
