Feb 2022 the cramps psychobilly rockabilly punk
I really love The Cramps, and it was the anniversary of Lux Interior's death the other day. Which set my mind off. You know how people say everything went to shit once Bowie died, and i thought no! In the UK the Conservatives got in during 2010, the year after Lux died, they've fucked everything and we've never been able to get rid of them!
Musically this is an excercise in wholesale thievery. The main riff is The Call of The Wighat, a Cramps number of course, though almost all their riffs were nicked from old records so I know they would approve. The little lick from the intro and the breakdown is my attemp at one of those Blues Holler things, but my voice cannot do it, especially at the moment. still getting over a cold, which is hampering all of my vocals, but whatever!
*intro lick with blues hollers*
*chorus riff*
*Main riff twice*
They say David Bowie
Was holding the world together
But I know in my heart it was
lux interior
*chorus* - *noises*
*main riff twice*
Lux had a heart Attack
And ivy disappeared
The bastards took over
And ruled for 13 years
There's no objective truth
corruption through the roof
The world is cracking up
Like a rotten tooth
*chorus* - *woops and hollers*
*main riff twice*
I fear that we are damned
And spun are out of control
Without that guy in ten inch heels
Deep throating a microphone
He put on a wild show
Taught the kids to rock n roll
Lux had glitter in his bloodstream
And black vinyl in his soul
*holler riff*
*state trooper riff gradually building
*main riff at full intensity*
IVY!
IVY COME BACK!
IVY COME BACK!
POISON IVY RORSCHACH
*FIN*

Excellent tribute--complete with attitude! This had to be so much fun to sing and play...the result is so catchy and really could be on one of my 45s from back in my younger years. Great song!

What a perfect dedication to the awesome Cramps. Super fun song, hard truths and gorgeous glam-a-billy vibes (don't know if that's a thing, but you've stacked a whole bunch of awesome in one song). Totally enjoyed this one.
@keithcuts Feb 2022
Slick playing through out !
I like the balance of passioned sentiment and storytelling in the lyrics !
Awesome sound

Don't know what happened to my comment on this, so here goes again. Lovely production, digging those guitar tones and your vocal delivery. Great stuff!
@sailingmagpie Feb 2022
Love it! A real tribute to The Cramps' style and you've really got your righteous anger shining through in the lyrics. I think you're right in that they nicked the riff anyway (probably from the Nuggets compilation but I can't remember).

The guitar is terrific, energetic and vibey. Love the almost primal screams you scatter throughout the song, and this is a cracking line ha ‘Without that guy in ten inch heels
Deep throating a microphone’

I can hear Lux's crazy rock n roll vibrato and Poison Ivy's amp tremolo.
They were doing that stripped down drum and guitar sound years before the White Stripes made it popular. A nice tribute. Maybe you need to be wearing stilettos to be able to emulate Lux's whoops and hollers?
@cblack Feb 2022
I like it. Sounds very appropriate. I never really got into The Cramps, but now I might have to!
@jramonewi Feb 2022
Very cool tribute. m/
@kanttila Feb 2022
Right on! Nice tribute song, you take on the style well. I like the guitar action here!
@rayboneor Feb 2022
Love it! More screaming please. I love the idea that Lux Interior was holding the world together. I'm sitting here in fear and trembling as the riff builds at the end. Whew...we made it out alive. Good stuff for sure

I've got to admit I've not heard of the cramps, sorry. Saying that, this track makes me want to listen to them so that's saying something. Guessing that they were around in the same era as the ramones because this reminds of them.
@hornesgiftshop Feb 2022
Couldn't agree more. Bring back Poison Ivy.
