The third song in my series centering around Ovid's Metamorphoses, this one concerning the story of Aesacus. Might be my favorite so far but there is still some tinkering I need to do, but I gotta just get it out there so I can just keep moving. Starting to fall behind! I am still new to using the audio software and part of FAWM has been figuring it out as I go, so maybe come March I will fine tune some of the editing, guitar and percussion . So not fully done, but almost there.
"His feathers broke his fall, and he, enraged, dove straightway down, and plunging to the depths, attempted to find out the way to death, continually and without success."
Ovid's Metamorphoses. Book XI "Rome Begins at Troy" lines 1133-1136
Between the brackish water and the edge of the cliff
The sinking feeling hits my chest
Again
I immerge in the ocean
I gather breath
Each plunge seeks a little death
Hold on as long as I can
I only jumped one time
And that was so long ago
Before I could fly
Man I was torn up
I was driven beyond relief
Guilt and grief completely changed me
I couldn’t bear the sun
Couldn’t stand the salt on my skin
Only saved by some gods’ passing whim
“I spit back the oceans gift
Take that!”
Now I don’t even know why
I’d fight the design
That brought me here
Soaring in the wind
Somehow alive, feathered and buoyant
A constant diver
In a swallowing sea
Where twin desires meet
And break away
Keep my flight line
In steep decline
Straightaway down
Hold me here forever
Let me stay
In a darkness deserving
Nothing but the crashing of the waves
Just to emerge again
Gifted with water glistening
On wings outgrown from a body thrown
Off the earth’s most hollowed out edge
Into the deepest abyss
Saved by some gods' passing whim

I almost forgot you were on FAWM. So glad I remembered. This is very cool! Definitely could be categorized as "acid-folk" or "ambient-folk" as well psychedelic-folk, But why categorize it at all other than Crumble Boyesque? Love the descending chord section in particular. Lyrically the image of "alive, feathered and buoyant" is a happy one I will dwell on and savor for the moment. Love the ending too.

I love..
- the reverb-y effect on the guitars and the low rumbling chords.
- the awesome storytelling, and especially the line "each plunge seeks a little death".
- the vocals, there is a grit to them which suits this wonderfully.

Wow. I love this song. Love the low end of your voice. Wow. Just wow. It just gets deeper and deeper. I love the phrasing of "I spit back the ocean's gift. Take that" . You really tell his story here. So deep in his point of view. I guess I'm not the only bird in the family. Love this so much. Something Joni-ish about it.

Wow. Just wow. The depths that you pulled out of the lines into these lyrics is powerful.
The part I find most effective is the slightly uplifting line behind "Soaring in the wind..." up until "Constant diver..." where it falls back down. It is barely there but feels so true to the story of trying to break this cycle but that one moment of even slight levity draws you back into another attempt. Furthered by the lines leading up to "Hold me here forever, Let me stay"
like the entire point of doing this "continually, and without success" is trying to hold in that fleeting moment of hope that maybe, this time, the outcome will be different.
One of my favorites of this FAWM so far, well done!

These lyrics are fantastic. The music gives me a “Planet Caravan” vibe. Very expressive vocal. Some very interesting and wonderful choices throughout. Nice work!
