Feb 2022 singer-songwriter jazzy full-band guitar
I guess I'm getting a second kinda-sorta-jazz song out of this year's FAWM. I actually wrote the chord progression first with a bit of chord melody, so I had the tune right away but the lyrics gave me fits as I couldn't figure out what story I wanted to tell with this, except that it was a rainy night and the main character is hailing a cab because she missed her train ride home. In the end I decided that she just finished a lousy date and going up for coffee and a nightcap was a mistake so she's high-tailing it out in the middle of the night despite the rain.
This was also pretty challenging to sing as it has a few non-diatonic notes in it (particularly the Bb that's all over the place), and while I didn't nail it I don't think I'm too far off of what was in my head.
Somewhat irritatingly, the lyrical cadence turned out to be almost the same as Witchy Woman, which is now stuck in my head.

| D Gdim | GM7 Gm7 | Eb7 A7 | D
Oh, no, Annie, dear
I think it’s going to rain
Oh, no, Annie, dear
You’ll miss the final train
Oh, no, Annie, dear
He’ll never be your man
Sometimes nights don’t turn out
Quite the way you plan

| D6(9) F#m7 | C6(9) Em7 | A6 DbM9sus | D
I fear you’ll slip away
You always disappear
Annie, Annie, dear
Oh, no, Annie, dear
Another quiet drive
Taxi sign and traffic lights
And another sleepless night

Lovely song! Great guitar sound. The sparse lyric leave plenty to the imagination, a clever way to engage the listener. Beautifully performed.

This was really wonderful. The skill level on display here with the guitar is really impressive. Love how at the end the final chord just hangs in the air.

I'm impressed with the way you sketched out a whole story and conveyed a mood in sixteen lines and a guitar break! Great chord progression and nice lead/solo work -- you're inspiring me to attempt a solo or two myself this month.

I love the "oh no, Annie dear" framing of the song -- the way that lyric sounds and the various things it sets up. Especially when we get to the bridge. It's great that you give us pieces of the story that hint at what the bigger picture is. This is great!

Oooh, nice jazzy chords, thank you for sharing them too! Love the guitar tones, they're lovely and full and warm, as they should be in this kind of song. The lyrics are cleverly spare yet full of meaning, and you lay the whole scene out really effectively. Nice write!

Nice and relaxed song. Rather pensive. Your vocals seem very fitting for the lyrics.
I like it. :)

Oh that was a sweet song to start my happy hour. Love that guitar tone!

This makes me want to go Sunday driving on a Tuesday. It's so mellow and so upbeat at the same time.
