Feb 2022 folk fearless persistence
Today's fearless songwriter prompt was "take a walk"
Just Keep Walking
I take a walk on jagged roads
Underneath a solemn sky
To find the story I’d have told
If only I knew how to try
Rain falls down
Sun keeps rising
And if I don’t know what to do
I’ll just keep walking
The loons intone a mournful sound
In an unfamiliar place
And even on uncertain ground
I try to hold a steady pace
Rain falls down
Sun keeps rising
And if I don’t know what to do
I’ll just keep walking
I marvel at a red-tailed hawk
And worry about my mistakes
And every path I choose to walk
Creates the one I didn’t take
Rain falls down
Sun keeps rising
And if I don’t know what to do
I’ll just keep walking
I know I can’t forever roam
And though I may be unprepared
I wonder if this path leads home
And whether I will find you there
Rain falls down
Sun keeps rising
And if I don’t know what to do
I’ll just keep walking
I’ll just keep walking
I’ll just keep walking

Nice, light picking and vocal here for the travelling song. Sometimes the best thing we can do is just keep on walking. Very poignant line in every path I choose to walk creates the one I didn't take.

I appreciate that there is a consistency throughout this beautiful narrative that encourages one to keep pressing forward...even when the constants don't necessarily align with how might be feeling/doing. I enjoyed this very much.

Very pretty song here. I love your guitar sound. Feeling sad and hopeful at the same time, just keep walk8ng,endurance, keep ongoing. All hopeful in your voice. #tit4tat.

The momentum in the face of them "slings and arrows" is empowering and compelling. There's a poetic observation to the lyrics and the voice is so calm and controlled (and easy to listen to) the listener wants to be/become/accompany/follow this walker. There's a magic here. Well done. I think I said it before, your music goes beyond the (deceptively simple) sum of it's parts.
#tit4tat - thanks for your kind words. :)

very pretty guitar and vocal for a pretty melancholy song! I don't mind the way they play off each other and yeah sometimes you just get up another day and try and move on and again and again! all you can do

Really like the combination of your gentle vocals and delicate guitar playing. I like your references to loons and red-tailed hawk. Loons are my favorite! This song had me feeling like I was walking right there with you…

Sweetly sung with the lyrics,, I always like a destination in mind while I walk but if off-course ; gotta keep walking,, sweet to find your home is the destination . #tit4tat

There’s some really interesting and creative rhythmic things in how you time your chord changes. It adds a very conversational feel to the song. I haven’t figured it out, but maybe it’s just an extra measure in the verses? And that walking bass line in the chorus is so on theme and pleasant. #tit4tat

The fingerpicking is really accomplished, sounds fabulous! I particularly like that 'Rain falls down / Sun keeps rising' bit - it's a really nice change in the rhythm of the melody, and the words feel very universal and relatable. Your vocal's great on this too :) #tit4tat

Nice write: the doggedness of the walker in the face of the unknown is mirrored by that steady thumbed bassline. Love the particular observations of the birds!
@tamsnumber4 Feb 2022
I really like the phrasing of this and such a nice vocal. A very descriptive write.

Gorgeous imagery and a beautiful chorus. Such lovely storytelling and fingerpicking.

The chorus in this song is exquisite. It's so specific while subtly hitting on bigger ideas. I love the line "And every path I choose to walk/Creates the one I didn’t take" - and your voice sounds gorgeous on this track.

As a prolific walker this felt so right from the very start of those steady rolling arpeggios. Beautiful lyric and a gorgeous result- Bravo!
@colgoo Feb 2022
The guitar is so perfect for the chorus of “Rain Falls Down” and the andante rhythm is perfect for the subject of walking. Great storytelling, Beth!
@sph Feb 2022
What a beautiful chorus. Weekend walks have helped making the last years bearable.
@sunnymae Feb 2022
Just for starters, your fingerpicking is heavenly and grabbed me from note one. These lyrics had me in tears, especially the chorus.
And this couplet Beth...my G-d.
"And every path I choose to walk
Creates the one I didn’t take."
Speechless. I will listen to this many times.
Oh my...

@kenmattsson Feb 2022
A lovely piece and I love the way it feels like it has continuous motion, like "I just keep walking". You sound and play as sweetly as ever. Just a great song.
@mikegtz Feb 2022
The music for this song is beautiful, Beth. I can hear a chorus at the end singing "just keep walking". Nice job here.
@hmstreetteam Feb 2022
I love this song! The core idea is so me — just keep walking is deep in my programming somehow.

Not quite getting up after each setback but more keeping an even forward keel with the daily sun rise a reminder that the world goes on, that our miseries can dissipate into the ether through the power of a mind clearing, progress-inducing walk about. Pleasant listen, the languid tone helps with the word painting here.
