Feb 2022 horror spooky halloween valentine
A piece in the genre I just invented called Valenween.
The Kentucky sun
Has been extinguished in a mist
Then this sunken weather
Sends the dead above their crypts
My beloved, come up from the mud
Give us a kiss
My eye is itchy
So I scratch and scratch some more
But it still itches me
Then suddenly a shimmering gore
Of screaming sinew slicks the floor
Before I bolt upright with the morn
Then Elizabeth hung above
Eye to eye with me, socket writhing
She so close that we could touch
Dangling down from her gaping mouth
Came the mud
Nothing but the taste of it
On my tongue
Then I fell into that empty eye
Which became a corridor stretching out endlessly
With walls of paintings on either side
Each the frame of a cobwebbed memory
And as I walked down
The whirling tendrils of visions past
Lapped around my waste
My pupils replaced by her insistent reverie
Etiquette lessons with Madam Plemons
Corset fittings in the study
Thomas making faces from across the table
Wrestling in the rain till we were both muddy
I atop Penny’s clopping strides
Winchester’s afternoon tea
Knitting a shall for father
My betrothal to Jeremy Lee
Falling in love with Margaret Bard
Not only my sex, but colored
Protecting his name from further harm
Father locking me in the cellar
Fury, such fury, all gone in days
Hours with only my mind
Sanity slipping as time slipped away
An itch forming over my eye
That nagging itch growing more intense
So I rip at my flesh till there is nothing left
Then Elizabeth hung above
Eye to eye with me, socket writhing
She so close that we could touch
Draped across her gaping maw
Was a grin
She grabbed my eye
It was her turn to come in
The Kentucky sun
Has been extinguished in a mist
Then this sunken weather
Sent the dead above their crypts
My beloved, come up from the mud
Give us a kiss

I am 100% on board for Valenween. This is spooky, punky, dark, and a lot of fun. What a narrative! Your lyrics are incredible. Love the image of falling into her eye and reliving all her memories. The mallets, tremolo guitar, and rhythmic changes are all great touches, too.

I'm always a sucker for tremolo guitar! Also, xylophone. The change of rhythm after the verses is awesome. And before we know it, we've gone double time for a bit! A real journey through a Sonic world with this song!

Playful and well written. You like Mozart takes the listener slightly off the established track and in the end you got the kiss from Seaside Rendevouz by Queen I think? I do agree that valentine is a bit spooky.
Peace

Kentucky weather has been fully gross this week and marginally improving, at least where I am.
I like the mallets, bring them even further forward during the parts where there are no vocals!
Big TMBG vibes, I bet that's why I watchlisted you in the first place.

Killer chord changes! Well compared and wonderfully produced. Love the layers of guitar and the marimba. Man, this is a journey. It's a rollercoaster of different tempos and moods. Brilliant stuff
