Take a Walk
She said lets walk across a border
To see where others have before
We’ll train our feet to meet the distance
We’ll stay in hotels and explore
And everyday we’ll carry
Only what we need
Walking shoes and a snack or two
A journal and a map
We were taking our own journey
A pilgrimage of choice
But in it I imagined
All the ones who tried to walk
To a better life, a safer place - a refuge from the pain
To a place of hope - beyond the wall and freedom calls my name
She said let’s walk across the border
To live like others have before
We’ll take our children across the distance
We’ll find food as we get there
And every day we’ll carry
The things we think we need
And when we make it to the river
We will shed them like debris
We are taking a journey
A pilgirimage no choice
And all we can imagine
Is the life that we want.
To a better life, a safer place - a refuge from the pain
To a place of hope - beyond the wall and freedom calls my name

I love "We’ll train our feet to meet the distance" and the transition from your voluntary walk to the ones that are less voluntary -- doing that through imagining (both lyrically and actually) is effective. And how both of these pilgrimages involve hope.
